Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, From Bishop Luis Zarama, Bishop of Raleigh During the second week of January of each year, the Church in the United States observes National Migration Week. This year s theme, Many Journeys, One Family, highlights the fact that many are on journeys in our world today, as more than 65 million people around the world have been forcibly displaced from their homes due to political instability, violence, and other reasons. Of that number, 22 million persons are refugees, displaced to another country. Additionally, an estimated 17,000 people have been trafficked against their will into the United Stares in forced labor or prostitution. Our observance of National Migration Week provides us with the opportunity to learn more about the universal teaching of our Church on immigration and how it may be applied and lived. I invite you to visit http://dioceseofraleigh.org/offices/social-concerns/immigration for more information on the teaching of the Church on these fundamental matters of the dignity of human life. Locally and through Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Raleigh, we assist in the work of witnessing to this dignity through our work with immigrants in the completion and submission of legal documents from application to naturalization, as well as with the integration of immigrant families and other victims of human trafficking into our communities. I invite you to join me and my brother Bishops as we work together to advocate for legislation which will provide just and humane solutions to a broken immigration system that often separates families and denies due process. May the Lord Jesus continue to bless your family in this New Year and may Mary, our Mother, intercede for us to help us grow in love and greater communion with each other as we share the bond of faith as one family in Christ. Save the Date... 4 th Annual International Food Festival at St. Mark Catholic Church Wilmington, NC Saturday, April 21st 2018 10am 4pm For more information contact: Laura Sterner @ LauraESterner@gmail.com or 910-547-7351 Facebook.com/IFF2018 stmarkcatholicchurch.com New Parishioners.. We invite you to register by contacting the church office. Registration is a sign of one s commitment and responsibility to the parish. It provides an official record of your membership and is essential for participation in parish programs and sacraments. This also ensures that we can communicate with you about things that are happening. Thank you. THE LAMB OF GOD Behold the Lamb of God! We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there s a good chance that many Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today s Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

Could this be you? We continue to have a need for sacristans in order to effectively handle our current mass schedule (including the three weekend masses, holy days of obligation, and daily masses). This is an important role that happens prior to mass starting.many in the congregation are unaware of this activity, but it is a key part in the celebration of the mass. What does a sacristan do? Some of the primary responsibilities of the sacristan include setting up for mass (includes the books, vessels, hosts, wine, etc.) This is a behind the scenes role - i.e. you are helping to set up for mass ahead of time, but once mass starts, you can be sitting in the congregation - you are not on the altar. Do I need to have had past training or experience to help out as/learn to be a sacristan now? No - No previous training or experience is required. For those who are interested in helping, but new to the role (or even to the idea of the role), please be assured that training will be provided and you will serve with an experienced sacristan as you are coming up to speed and until you are comfortable on your own. There will also be detailed instructions with pictures available as a guide. Perhaps it s a good time to think about this and to pray about it - maybe this is something that God is calling you to. For more information, please contact: Dennis Dubuc @ dennisdubuc@gmail.com, or call 860-391-3597. Please Pray for Those Who Are Sick... Please contact the Parish Office for more information. Men s Group - Build Faith and Friendship Every Saturday - 7:30 AM in Parish Hall Men - start your weekend off right! Join other men of St. Therese on Saturday mornings for coffee, bagels, and candid conversation about how we can become better Catholic men. We read and discuss scripture, but most of the time spent together consists of open dialogue about how these readings relate to real events in our lives. It is a great way to build both faith and friendship. Regardless of your journey, the time spent together enables all of us to grow. We are fortunate to have our faith to guide us - spending some time in this way helps our faith to grow. Drop in when it works for you. See you there! Scripture Circle - Enjoy the Bible & Live the Words Every Thursday - 12:35 PM in the Parish Hall All are invited to join fellow parishioners as we read Scripture passages for the upcoming weekend Masses. After prayer and reading we all join in with our reflections of how these words of God teach us and strengthen us in our faith. We look to the Holy Spirit especially to guide us on our journeys to grow in discipleship following Jesus by living and showing our faith through example. Perhaps the most enjoyable part of these gatherings is in gaining many more insights than we can by ourselves & laughing together about all the irony that God has built into this journey. Come join us.
