Resistance Theory This is the traditional notion of school resistance. Transformative Resistance The fourth form of resistance refers to student behavior that illustrates both a critique of oppression and a desire for social justice. The first type of oppositional behavior is not a form of resistance because the student lacks both a critique of her or his oppressive conditions and is not motivated by social justice Reactionary Behavior The third type of resistance refers to the oppositional behavior of motivated student who are motivated by a need for social justice yet hold no critique of the systems of oppression. Conformist Resistance

Madie Monarez

My Past Educational Experience In the past I was in the middle of Conformist Resistance and Transformative Resistance. I feel in the past I was in the middle of both of these resistances because of occasionally speaking out while being with my friends, but mostly staying quiet and stuck in my comfort zone.

My Present Educational Experience I believe now in my present life style I am in Transformative Resistance. I feel at this moment I am Transformative Resistance because I speak my mind now, and no one can change my beliefs and I do have a voice but sometimes I feel I find trouble for myself in speaking.

In the future I would like to have Conformist Resistance with a dash of Transformative Resistance. The reason being is I feel I have a stronger character than most people. I feel I just need to notch myself down and learn to reword myself without coming off so strong towards people. My Future

Gio Garcia

In my past I was In the middle of a conformist resistance learner and reactionary. I was in between them because in would usually give up on doing my work, also I would try to get my mind off of my class work. If I didn t have my mind out of the classroom then I would be a distraction in the class room by talking to my friends in the class. I would talk to my friends because that s who I felt comfortable around.

Presently I feel I am a conformist resistance learner. I like to be around people whom I feel comfortable with. Although I am a conformist resistance learner I feel that I am making a change and becoming a transformist learner because I am putting together this presentation to help others change education and make our schools better. I am very interested in the project because it might make a change to help others get the education experience which they can both enjoy, and benefit from.

In my educational future I am going to be between a conformist learner and a transformist learner. I am going to be a conformist learner and a transformist learner because I am going to move forward in my education and also try to stay in my comfort zone but if I get the opportunity to make a change to better the next students education then I will take advantage of it.

Not understanding the school system and rebelling against the school system. No critique of social oppression, not motivated by social justice. The reason I chose Reactionary Behavior for my past, was because back when I was younger I was not aware of what school really meant to me. I would act out occasionally and not attend classes. If I showed up for classes, I wouldn t really do any work. I was just enrolled but did not put any effort into my studies. It was hard for me to concentrate when so many things were going on at my home, and I didn t have anyone to really guide me better. I would easily get distracted and influenced.

Conformist Resistance Students stays in comfort zone and doesn t t want to change things in school. I chose Conformist Resistance as my present state because I feel comfortable where I stand as far as my schooling goes. I don t bother to speak up if it doesn t concern me or intervene with my studies. I try not to get involved in changing any schools, programs, or how the school system runs. I do speak up for myself when I feel it s necessary. I am focused on my studies and that s all that I worry about.

Transformative Behavior- People that are looking for a change and question the school system motivated by social justice. I would want to become a Transformative in my future because I want to be determined and be able to question things. I want to be able to question things and know what I am talking about. I want the feeling of determination and motivation. I am also looking for a positive change in my life. I would love to look forward in my studies and enjoy it.

Edward Garcia

Past In the past I would say I was in the reactionary behavior. I was in the reactionary behavior because I never wanted to go to school. I always talked back to the teacher, and I never did my homework. I always took it home and never brought it back. I just didn t t care about school.

Present Right now I consider myself to be in the conformist behavior. I come to school just so I can be done with school. I don t t like trying to change anything about the school. It doesn t bother me, so I have no need to try to change anything about it.

Future In the future, I plan on being in the transformative behavior. I plan on being in the transformative behavior because I m I m not always going to like the rules of where ever I m I m going to be, and if I don t t like it, I will try to change it to my liking.

Karina Reyes

In my past I was in the transformative and in the self defeating resistance. I rebelled in school by questioning my teachers and asking why they don t teach us about our culture and why our Mexican culture is not embraced. I tried to talk to my peers about it to but they wouldn't listen to me, so I gave up on myself, stopped caring and I dropped out of high school. Self Defeating

Conformist Right now I m in the conformist resistance. I dropped out of high school and wasted a lot of time. Now I have a baby to take care of and I can t waste any more time. I want to get my high school diploma and not worry about anything else.

Transformative My goal is to become a nurse and to change my community. I want to go to work and to also educate people about our past, and I want to be able to have time to spend with my baby as well.
