A reading from the Prophet Isaiah 2: 1-5 Let us go to the house of the Lord, they said, Oh how great was our joy when we heard! Now our feet are set firm on Jerusalem's soil at the gates of the City of God, May the house of the Lord be at peace. For the city is blessed now with unity, all restored in its beauty and calm. Here the tribes of the Lord in their thousands have come to give thanks unto Israel's God. May the house of the Lord be at peace. For they come to sing praises and thanks to God, and, as pilgrims, obey his commands. In the city of justice where David has ruled they now pray for Jerusalem's peace. May the house of the Lord be at peace. In this city may wholeness and peace abound, in your houses and palaces, peace! For the sake of my friends and relatives here for the sake of God's House, pray, "Shalom". May the house of the Lord be at peace. A reading from the Letter to the Romans 13: 11-14 Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia. Let us see, O Lord, your mercy and give us your saving help. Alleluia, alleluia A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 24: 37-44 2
The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, At the words that follow, up to and including the Virgin Mary, all bow. who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Using technology to support praying for children This week radioalba recorded two primary pupils of Our Lady of the Rosary Primary for an Advent Morning Prayer to send round schools. The music was provided by Magdalen MacInnes formerly of St George s Primary and it will be available from the 4 th December on the radioalba Morning Half-hour at 8.15 and every subsequent 30 miniutes until noon for the whole of that week. We will make the Morning Prayer available to all our schools next week giving them the written word and the recorded songs and reading and prayers. A few years ago we would have had to post it all on paper and we couldn t then record it to let the children have a more immediate sense of prayer happening. A Morning Prayer for Advent Let us pray: Lord, as we look towards Christmas renew our love of all that is life and our enthusiasm for living it. Wednesday is the Fest of St Andrew: Mass at 10.00 a day to pray for the country. The Archdiocese marks 200 years since St Andrew s Cathedral was built. Let us pray God, our loving Father, St Andrew sought the Messiah, and when he found him he introduced Peter, the Greek visitors, and the little boy with loaves & fishes, to your Son, Jesus Christ. May we be like him in sharing friendship and hospitality, and in faithfulness to Jesus and his Kingdom of justice, love & peace. May our country be a community in which everyone matters, everyone has an honoured place, and the dignity of each is assured by our faith in you as Father of us all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN 7
