A Note From The Pastor Lent is moving right along next Sunday is Palm Sunday. I d like to remind everyone about my invita on to come to the Sacrament of Reconcilia on this Lent. We have expanded mes on Saturdays, from 3:00 4:30PM. Also, we will have a Lenten Penance Service this Monday, March 14th, at 7PM. A er a short Service, four priests will be available for individual confessions. St. Patrick s in Wadsworth will have their Lenten Penance Service this Tuesday, March 15th, from 7PM 8:30PM in their main Church just down the road from us. With Easter fast approaching, I thought that I would write a li le bit about the Divine Mercy Devo on. If you re not familiar with it, I strongly encourage you to learn about it. Pamphlets will be at the entrances of Church next weekend, Palm Sunday. In the 1930s, Jesus appeared to the uneducated Polish Nun, St. Faus na, revealing to her the message of the Divine Mercy. She would go on to record those revela ons about God s mercy in her diary. Briefly, the message is that God loves us, and wants to pour forth His unfathomable mercy upon us, no ma er how many or great our sins may be. The basics of Divine Mercy Devo on can be remembered by thinking of the ABCs of mercy: A) Ask God for mercy. We can do this above all in the Sacrament of Confession. Jesus loves to pour forth an ocean of mercy upon us, but we must ask. B) Be merciful to others. Sacred Scripture tells us that God will be merciful to us in the measure that we are merciful to others. C) Completely trust in Jesus. Trust is the essence of the devo on. St. Pope John Paul II canonized St. Faus na on April 30, 2000, and declared the First Sunday a er Easter (the Second Sunday of Easter) to be Divine Mercy Sunday. Absolute extraordinary graces are available to those who receive Holy Communion on this day, go to Confession as close to the Feast as possible, preferably within one week, and make a Novena. Jesus asked that we make the Novena to the Divine Mercy, which begins on Good Friday, and ends on the Saturday before Divine Mercy Sunday. The Novena only takes 5 10 minutes to pray each day; please take one of the pamphlets for instruc ons and informa on. With the excep on of Easter Sunday, there will be a group recita on of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the Church each day at 3PM on Good Friday through the first Saturday a er Easter. Prayer on Good Friday and Holy Saturday may take place in the Parish Center due to Church prepara on for the Easter celebra ons. Again, I highly encourage you to learn more about St. Faus na and the Divine Mercy Devo on. Please consider beginning the Nine Day Novena on Good Friday. Blessings, Fr. Paul March 13, 2016 Fi h Sunday Of Lent 3

Liturgy Of The Word For Children For over 25 years now, our Parish has provided for our younger members, a simplier form of the first part of the Mass, namely, the Liturgy of the Word. They hear one reading and the Gospel on their level. They do the responses and Psalm response as we do in Church. The homily a er the Gospel reading takes on a li le different format. The Prayer Leader asks the children ques ons in an effort to help the children review the message, and how to apply it to their everyday lives. They then pray the Creed by responding to each part of it with an I do, meaning that they believe. The Prayers of the Faithful are their personal inten ons. They regularly pray for their grandparents who have died, and their families. Another regular is to pray for the poor and the soldiers. The Prayer Leader then ends with, for all these prayers, and those in our hearts, we ask a blessing, which the children respond with Amen. Leaflets are past out to each child to take home. The leaflet has games children can do to con nue the learning process. There is always a simple form of the Gospel reading, and a part for the parents with sugges ons for doing ac vi es around the theme of the readings at home. Many thanks to the Prayer Leaders who have lead the children in this most important ministry. We are always in need of more Prayer Leaders. If you feel called to this ministry, or would like to know more about it, please contact Diana Jurista, the Director of Religious Educa on at: djurista@ourladyo umility.org, or see her a er Mass, or in the Religious Educa on Office. At this me, we have ages 3 Years Old through 8 Years Old a ending Liturgy of the Word. We would like to extend the age group to include older children who find the readings and homily in Church hard to understand. We are also finding that most 3 Year Olds are too young for the process, and need to wait un l they are 4 Years Old. To do this, we will need more Prayer Leaders so two adults could be assigned to each week for the 9AM and 11AM Masses. 8th Graders and High School Students could take the role of a second person. If you are interested in volunteering for this important ministry, please contact Diana, or have your parents contact Diana. There is training for this role of ministry. Mark Your Calendars For The Feast Of The Divine Mercy On the first Sunday of Lent, February 22, 1931, our Lord Jesus Christ granted a vision of Himself to Saint Faus na Kowalski of the Congrega on of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in the City of Plock, Poland. A er Saint Faus na had gazed intently at the vision, Jesus gave her instruc ons to Paint an image according to the pa erns you see, with the signature: JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU. Jesus desired that this image be venerated, first in the Sisters Chapel, and then throughout the world (Diary, 47). Jesus also told her that He desired that the image be displayed on the first Sunday a er Easter, the Feast of the Divine Mercy. Some of the promises Jesus made regarding the venera on of this image were: I PROMISE THAT THE SOUL THAT WILL VENERATE (HONOR) THIS IMAGE WILL NOT PERISH. I ALSO PROMISE VICTORY OVER (ITS ) ENEMIES ALREADY HERE ON EARTH, ESPECIALLY AT THE HOUR OF DEATH. I MYSELF WILL DEFEND IT AS MY OWN GLORY. (Diary, 48). Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us on Sunday, April 3rd, (the first Sunday a er Easter), on the Feast of the Divine Mercy, at 3PM. We will celebrate God s love with a 3PM Holy Hour followed by Benedic on in the Church on that Sunday. Many parishioners like to make a Novena to the Divine Mercy which starts on Good Friday, March 25th. Pamphlets with the Novena will be available on the tables near the entrance doors to the Church star ng next Sunday, Palm Sunday, March 20th, and during Holy Week. All are welcome, and we hope to see you there! Pilgrim Virgin Statue Home Visita on Program Are you in need of answers to prayers? Do you desire more peace and unity in your family? As Saint Patrick s me in Ireland served him well, a er he was called to be a bishop of that land, so help us to see how our sufferings strengthen us to do Your will. Later, as Saint Patrick s people withstood great hardship, protected Your word in monasteries, and brought Your Church to many new lands, so help us also to grow in faithfulness to You, and be Your instruments of the world s conversion.
