Once the schedule is published, you are responsible: serve or find a replacement. If an emergency arises preventing you from serving as scheduled, find a replacement, if possible, and notify the Mass oordinator. Please do not enter or exit the sanctuary through the center aisle when coming to the sacristy. Scheduled Ministers: heck in at least 10 minutes before Mass or the Mass coordinator will need to find a replacement. Sign in and take an emblem. AB and A ministers remain in the sacristy. B ministers sit in the congregation. If a deacon will be present and you are the AB, please ask him how he wants to handle things such as the ciboria in the tabernacle, etc. and what position he will take. Non-scheduled Ministers: Take a ministry emblem from the cross above the gift table to serve as a up minister. The hooks are labeled Mothers hapel and hoir, referring to the side of the church those areas are on. Remember to serve on the side from which you took the emblem. You are expected to be present for the entire Mass to serve. DURING THE MASS Procession: The order of the procession is: altar server with cross, two altar servers with candles, lector with the Book of the Gospels, second lector, two A ministers, AB minister, Presider. The AB and the lectors go to the pew on the choir side, the two A ministers go to the pew on the Mothers hapel side. Beginning of the ollection: At the beginning of the collection, after the intercessions, the AB will take the corporal and purificator to the altar. If the deacon is present, hand them to him. If not, place the corporal on the altar and unfold it carefully. Do not shake it. Position it so the bottom edge is about 3 inches from the edge of the altar. Place the purificator to the right of the corporal. Remove the book holder from the altar, placing it on the lower shelf of the credence table. After the altar server places the book on the altar, the AB may help the altar server place the ciboria on the corporal. Leave room along the edges for the cups. arry no more than two ciboria at a time, one in each hand. While the altar is being dressed, the A ministers move to the cup table. When all the ciboria are on the altar, take the trays with the cups and purificators to the altar and place the cups on the corporal along the edge. Return the trays to the cup table and wait there for the reception of the gifts. Be prepared to accompany the presider to receive the gifts. EEM Procedures Page 1

Reception of the Gifts: When the presider moves to receive the gifts, the lector stands behind him a little to the right (if there is no deacon). The A minister on that side stands to the right of the Lector. The A minister on the left side stands to the left of the presider on the same level as the other ministers. The layout below shows the usual positioning of everyone... (step) A_ L _A P (altar rail) If the deacon is present, he will stand with the presider and take all gifts from the presider and hand them to the appropriate person, otherwise, the presider will hand them to the appropriate person. The lector receives the book of petitions and immediately places it on the book holder. The A ministers receive the wine decanters. After receiving them, they immediately take them to the altar and begin pouring the wine into the cups, using a purificator to catch any possible drips. They take the empty decanters to the cup table and return to the pew. The A ministers greet the presider and go to their positions. (Be sure to leave a space for the presider.) If the deacon is not present the AB goes to the tabernacle and brings all the ciboria to the altar, carrying no more than two at a time, then goes to the AB position. If the deacon is present, he will bring the ciboria from the tabernacle. Ministers from the assembly enter the sanctuary during the sign of peace and go immediately to their positions on the altar (see figure below). Do not exchange the sign of peace with other ministers assembled around the altar. ministers should stand with their toes on the line in the black tile. AB B A P A B B3 3 After the presider drinks from the chalice, if no deacon is present, the B minister on the choir side steps forward to receive communion. That person will then go ahead of the presider, past the line of cup ministers and then follow the presider and offer the chalice to the other ministers. When finished, put the chalice back on the corporal. If there is Precious Blood left in the chalice leave it for the presider to consume. Step back into position. simply bow only your head as the person preceding you is The presider will hand each minister of the Bread a ciborium. The AB will immediately distribute the hosts to the people behind the ministers on the choir side, and then, if no deacon is present, proceed to the altar rail to wait for the presider. If the deacon is present, and the deacon will be standing by the presider, the ciborium will be handed to the deacon or placed on the altar and the AB will return to the pew. If needed, the AB may take a cup. Alternatively, the deacon may take a cup, in which case, the AB will stand next to the presider as usual. The ministers on the choir side will turn immediately after receiving the cup and communicate those behind them, then go to their stations, going around the end of the altar rail. When the presider hands the cup to a cup minister on the Mother's hapel side, the minister should immediately begin moving to his/her station, through the end of the altar rail. The A and B ministers should wait until the presider is ready and then proceed to their positions, going around the end of the altar rail. The 3 minister should go toward the back of the sanctuary on receiving the cup, where the B3 will join him/her and they will go to the Mother's hapel and choir together. (The choir may wait for the end of a verse or pause between groups or may wait until singing is done before coming to communion so be prepared to wait for them.) If the Mass does not have a B3 and 3 position, the Bread and cup ministers who finish first should go to the Mothers hapel and choir. EEM Procedures Page 2

Altar A B AB P B A When offering Holy ommunion to a communicant, the minister should raise the host or cup no higher than the eye level of the recipient. It is important to remember that during the consecration, the presider has already raised the bread and wine toward Heaven. When offering the Host or the cup to the communicant, please remember that our only message is to say the Body/Blood of hrist. For those not receiving communion, extend your hand over them and say something like May God bless you. Do not make the sign of the cross (that is reserved for the priest). If you anticipate a shortage of hosts, look around to see if someone has finished. If necessary, hosts may be broken in half. If you run out, you may exchange vessels with another minister. When any minister is finished, look to see if other ministers may be running short of Hosts or Precious Blood. Enter the sanctuary through the ends of the altar rail and then go to the other ministers. (heck with the presider and minister in the center aisle especially). If someone is running short exchange vessels with them and return to the cup table with the empty vessel. Do not share hosts without the vessel or pour Precious Blood into another cup. When exchanging vessels stand behind the minister you are exchanging vessels with so communicants don t mistakenly try to make a third line. If the ministers at the ends still have precious blood when the A and B ministers are done, they can move to stand with the other cup ministers on that side. After The AB will wait for the presider to finish, take the paten from him, then proceed to the cup table. The AB is to quickly and quietly consolidate all remaining hosts. Do not stack ciboria unless they have lids on them. Only the AB minister should combine the hosts. All other minsters, please return to your seats. The A ministers will take their ciboria to the cup table. Do not remove your emblem. Return to the pew. The B and ministers will place their ciboria, cups, purificators, and emblems on the cup table behind the tabernacle. onsume any remaining Precious Blood at the table (not while walking). If there is any Precious Blood that cannot be consumed, cover that cup with a purificator. Do not cover empty cups. Let the AB consolidate Hosts. Return to the assembly without delay by going around the ends of the altar rail. Do not exit the sanctuary by the center aisle. If the presider starts the prayer after communion before you have left the sanctuary, please stop where you are and bow your head, until the prayer is completed. When all hosts are consolidated, the AB minister will take the filled ciboria and put them in the tabernacle. The presider will be standing and waiting so the AB should complete this task quickly and efficiently and return to the pew. Recessional: The AB, A ministers and the lectors join the presider at the altar rail, bow with the presider, and exit. The order of the recession will be: altar server with cross, two altar servers with candles, two lectors, and two A ministers, AB minister, Deacon (if present) and Presider. EEM Procedures Page 3

AFTER MASS After the recessional music has finished, the AB and A ministers return to the sanctuary and help to clear the tables. After the vigil, 1 pm and 5 pm Masses, The AB locks the tabernacle and puts the key on the hook in the safe. If the Mass has a B3 and 3 position, the 3 minister (closest to the B3 minister) should go toward the back of the sanctuary where the B3 will join him/her and they will go to the Mother's hapel or choir together. The choir may wait for the end of a verse or pause between groups, or wait until the end of the song before coming to communion so be prepared to wait for them. When offering Holy ommunion to a communicant, the minister should raise the cup no higher than eye level of the recipient. When offering the cup to the communicant, please remember that our only message is to say the Blood of hrist. For those not receiving communion, extend your hand over them and say something like May God bless you. Do not make the sign of the cross (that is reserved for the priest). If you run out, step back and return to the cup table with the empty cup. Another minister may take your place. If the Mass does not have a B3 and 3 position, the Bread and cup ministers who finish first should go to the Mothers hapel and choir. When finished, look to see if other ministers may be running short of Precious Blood. Do not share Precious Blood by pouring it into another cup with another minister. You may exchange cups or another minister may take your place. If you are a minister on the end and still have Precious Blood when the bread ministers finish, you may move to stand with the other cup ministers on that side. After Place the cup, purificator, and emblems on the cup table behind the tabernacle. onsume any remaining Precious Blood at the table (not while walking). If there is any Precious Blood that cannot be consumed, cover that cup with a purificator. Do not cover empty cups. Return to the assembly without delay by going around the ends of the altar rail. Do not exit the sanctuary by the center aisle. If the presider starts the prayer after communion before you have left the sanctuary, please stop where you are and bow your head, until the prayer is completed. EEM Procedures Page 9
