Seattle Legatus - 2018 Program January 3 Fr. Bill Watson S.J.: Last year Fr. Watson gave a wonderful talk titled Beatitudes for Business to the Seattle Chapter that was specifically addressed how we can incorporate our faith in our everyday business lives as leaders He is currently the President of the Sacred Story Institute, and is involved in many worthy projects as you can see here. He can direct his comments specifically to business leaders as he has served in corporate roles and has spoken at many Legatus meetings. February 7 Carl Olsen: The Catechism of the Catholic Church, drawing upon the Second Vatican Council, explains that Jesus Christ is the one whom the Father anointed with the Holy Spirit and established as priest, prophet, and king, and that the whole People of God participates in these three offices of Christ and bears the responsibilities for mission and service that flow from them. What, exactly, does that mean? In what way are lay Catholics to be priests and prophets and kings? How does this relate to Saint John Paul II s emphasis (again, drawing on the Council s teachings) that the prime and fundamental vocation that the Father assigns to each of us in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit is the vocation to holiness? What does that mean for those of working out in the real world as businessmen and women? In what way does our work in the many tasks of business build up the kingdom of God? And, finally, how is all of this brought together in the radical truth of deification the Church s perennial (but often misunderstood or overlooked) teaching that we are called to be partakes of the divine nature? March 7 Fr. Denis Ryan C.Ss.R.: Fr. Denis Ryan shares his interesting life which began as the youngest of five children in Rockaway Beach, NY. Upon graduating college, he took a job as a 4th grade teacher before heading off to participate in the Vietnam war as an airborne radio intercept operator and North Vietnamese linguist specialist for our United States Air Force. In 1976, Fr. Denis began a career as a Corporate Bond Trader on Wall Street which would span 23 years. He left Wall Street in 1999 to enter the Redemptorist community to study for the priesthood. Ordained in 2006, his first assignment was to New Orleans four days before Hurricane Katrina. Fr. Denis is currently a priest here in Seattle at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish. He will offer perspective culled from his experiences--most notably as a Bond Trader--to our Catholic understanding. Fr. Denis Ryan formerly worked on Wall Street for many years prior to becoming a priest in his 50 s. He has a varied background with many different experiences which help him minister at Sacred Heart parish in Seattle as well as a Chaplain at Seattle Children s Hospital.
