A LENT EUCHARISTIC LITURGY http://nicholascoates.blogspot.com/2013/02/eucharistic-liturgy-for-first-sunday-of.html THE PRESENTATION AND OFFERING OF THE BREAD AND WINE At the taking of the bread Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. For us it becomes the bread of life. Blessed be God for ever
At the taking of the wine Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. For us it becomes the cup of salvation. Blessed be God for ever THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you And also with you We lift up our hearts We lift them up to God Let us give God thanks and praise It is right to give God thanks and praise As we get ready to come to the table of Christ, let us take moment to remembering that just like the father waited at the end of the driveway, here God waits for us, saving us a seat next to Him. This is a place where we can discover and be renewed in our true identities as loved and cherished children of God. Here you will find strength, rest, renewal, love and acceptance. Here you ll find abundant grace. So, knowing that there is a place for each of us here, and knowing that here we can encounter something real, divine and beautiful, let us pray, asking God s Spirit to renew us.
Let us pray Gracious God, It is you who makes new things out of us, and we ask that your Spirit meet us here. Give us boldness to approach your table knowing there is room for us. Give us faith to know here we can find grace, rest, and renewal. You are our God and we are your people, let us eat, be nourished, and transformed. And everyone said in the nourishing name of Jesus Christ, Amen. We remember our ancient Story of faith. The Story which tells us that God saw Her people were forced to carry bricks and boards, enslaved under Pharaoh, suffering and crying out for liberation. God heard their cries and answered, leading them to freedom. We remember our ancient Story of faith. That God saw His people burdened under the weight of sin, worry, labels and pride. God saw us enslaved to our baggage, suffering and crying out for liberation. And because God is a God of Love, God reached out to us in Jesus Christ, offering us grace and love, a way to leave our baggage behind, and find life as it was meant to be. As the Church, we are a community who finds ourselves within that ancient story of faith. We too have found in Christ, God s grace, love, and freedom. As Christ promised, it is here, at this table, a place we can come back to again and again, that we can find renewal, rest, and nourishment, a chance to lay down these things we carry and be renewed in who we are. It is here that we see our Creator face to face, and be soulfully reminded that we are loved, beautiful, worthy, children of God. THE ANAMESIS
Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. And with all those who find new life in Christ, we join in this ancient meal of faith. We receive the sacrifice of Jesus, and in turn offer ourselves to declare the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again. EPICLESES God of us all, Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and on these gifts of wine and bread. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ so we may be nourished and renewed in the image with which we were made. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, and the Spirit we call Holy, Amen. THE CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER The bread which we break, is it not the sharing of the Body of Christ. Because there is one loaf, we though many are one body. The cup of blessing which we bless Is it not a sharing of the Blood of Christ?
ALL Merciful Lord, we do not presume to come to your table trusting in our righteousness, but in your great mercy. We are not worthy even to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefor, therefor, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your Son, Jesus Christ, and to drink His blood, that we may ever dwell in Him, and He is us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world Have mercy on us Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world Have mercy on us Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world Give us your peace THE PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION: Gracious God, We have come to your table. We have eaten and drank our fill. Thank you for this grace we have received here. May this renewal be felt in our bodies and spirits. May we know we are loved, precious, and defined not by the things we carry throughout our lives, but by your love, and your love alone. May your Spirit lead us into the world, giving us the eyes to see, ears to hear, and hands to touch all those in need of grace, love, and rest. May we be as Christ was for us, here for the sake of the world.
