PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ On this holiday weekend I d like to begin by welcoming any guests who are here at St. Beatrice from out of town, perhaps visi ng family or friends. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and we appreciate you coming to St. Beatrice for the celebra on of the Sunday Mass. And today is indeed a celebra on because today is the Solemnity of Christ the King. This solemnity marks not only the last Sunday in the season of Ordinary Time, but it is also the last Sunday in the liturgical year (the Church year, if you will). Next weekend we begin a new liturgical year with the season of Advent. But before we jump ahead to Advent, I d like to update you on some important parish informa on. First, please note that our parish s annual financial report is printed in this issue of the bulle n. I want to thank our rectory staff and parish Finance Council for helping to put together this report and review it. A summary of our financial status is printed on one page, along with a more detailed commentary on the adjacent page. I encourage everyone to take the me to read it. I did talk about our financial status from the pulpit at the Masses last weekend, but for those who may have missed it, I would just like to emphasize some of the main points I made: (1) Despite the fact that we actually lowered our weekly budgeted amount, and that we try to keep costs down as much as possible, our average weekly expenses are s ll around $12,000, and our average weekly collec on is around $4,600; (2) We have three large buildings that require con nual maintenance for example, right now one mechanical room in the church building requires over $8,000 worth of work; (3) Most of the cash that we receive in the collec on baskets is single dollar bills, but if everyone who currently gives $1 or less would instead give $4 or $5, that would make a huge difference; (4) I would like to sincerely thank those of you who contribute your me, talent, and treasure to St. Beatrice. One posi ve trend from this past fiscal year is that, even though our weekly a endance has decreased, and our Sunday collec ons have decreased, the average dona on per person actually increased slightly which means that those who are already dona ng to the parish are doing even more to make up for those who do not contribute at all. Again, I am very grateful to anyone who gives to the parish, either financially or through volunteerism. And the other posi ve note is that our enrollment in Religious Educa on (grades 1-8) this school year has increased from last year. So, it s good to see some areas of growth! And finally, looking ahead to Advent, make sure to mark your calendars for two upcoming events. First, a new event is our Advent Retreat, which will take place on Wednesday, December 6 th at 7:00pm in church. The speaker will be Fr. Dominic Clemente (our former adopted seminarian). The tle of his talk is, "A Walk with our Blessed Mother to the Birth of Jesus." Refreshments will be served in the Gathering Room a erwards. The event is free and is sponsored by our Knights of Columbus. And this year our annual Parish Christmas Party will be celebrated at a different day and me. It will take place on Sunday, December 10 th at 2:00pm at the Allegra Banquets at the Comfort Suites in Schiller Park. Tickets will be available a er Masses or at the rectory. Please make plans to join with your parish family in celebra ng the season! St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you as we close out the liturgical year. Fr. Rob

PAGE THREE Christ the King: Today as we celebrate Christ the King, we hear Jesus say:...whatever you did for one of the least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Knowing that we find the face of Christ in the poor, this month through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to provide 6 baskets of food. Thank You! CHRISTMAS WAFERS 1st Sunday of Advent Christmas Wafers are available in the Bridal Room. Wafers are $1.00 per package. Your donation for the wafers goes toward the continued assistance of the St Vincent de Paul Society. MUSIC MINISTRY If you are interested in joining St. Beatrice Adult Choir, or Children s Choir please Contact Richard Gersten, Music Director (708) 786-8630 or atenorsart@sbcglobal.net The Children s Choir: Karen Lima (Assistant Coordinator) Karen.ann.lima@gmail.com TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today we have a modern feast, less than a century old, and placed at the very end of the liturgical cycle of Sundays only in 1969. In 1925, the world was in a sorry state from the vantage point of Pope Pius XI. The winds of war had swept the map of Europe raw, and ancient Christian dynasties had fallen in Russia and Spain. Although the Great War had ended, wars were breaking out everywhere. Fascism was already in control in Italy, and Nazism was on the horizon for Germany. The disorder making its claim on the human race was, the pope felt, an insult to the Divine Order. Pius XI designated the last Sunday in October as a day of universal recognition of the kingship of Christ. Creating this feast was an act of bravery by the pope, who was standing up against idolatry of the state and the dehumanizing forces of the modern world, things that are not hard to detect in today s world as well. In 1969 it seemed fitting to move the feast to a place of honor at the end of the year, a way of summing up the whole movement of the liturgical year toward the perfection of the Kingdom of God. In recent decades, many Protestant churches have adopted this day from the new Roman calendar, so it is shared now with the Church of England, the Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches, and others. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. If you would ever like to bring up the Gifts during Mass, please simply Let the ushers know before Mass. Anyone is welcome to be a gift bearer. ADVENT RETREAT: SAVE THE DATE! A walk with our Blessed Mother to the birth of Jesus Join us for a night of prayer and reflection on Wednesday, December 6th at 7pm at St. Beatrice Church featuring Fr. Dominic Clemente. Fr. Dominic is a young charismatic speaker who was recently mentioned in a Time Magazine article entitled The God Squad: The Next Generation of Catholic Priests. The event is FREE Refreshments will be served invite your Friends! Presented by: Knights of Columbus
