Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... Pentecost Sunday There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit. 1Corinthians 12:4 Reflection on Today s Readings: FOCUS: The Holy Spirit offers us the grace and gifts that can set our faith on fire The Holy Spirit is a lively, dynamic presence in the world. This presence unites the Church as the Body of Christ and helps to inflame out faith so we, in turn, can help build up God s Kingdom on earth. Empowered by the spirit, members of the Church can boldly proclaim God s love and mercy that come through Jesus Christ. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading proclaims how the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and united people as they heard the good news. In the second reading, Paul tells how the Spirit unites the Church in proclaiming Christ. In the Gospel, the Risen Lord Jesus breathes on the Apostles so they receive the Holy Spirit, who brings peace through forgiveness of sins. Dear Parishioners, Happy Pentecost Sunday! Happy Birthday Church! On this great solemnity we pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and bless our community of faith. The gifts of the Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and holy reverence for the Lord. May the Spirit bring us these holy gifts. Thank you to all who made Mass on the Grass so fun. We all enjoyed ourselves praying together, and, being our community of course there was food! The hot dogs and chili cook-off were outstanding. Congratulations to our chili cook-off winners. You know who you are! But you are ALL winners to me. Devotedly, Father Gabe MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER For those who are ill, and those in need of our prayers Please let us know about the condition of those for whom we pray. Visit: www.lavocations.org Pope Benedict XVI asserts that making the changes necessary to turn around climate change before it is too late is not simply a scientific or political question but a moral and spiritual one. We are not the masters but the stewards of God s creation and have a responsibility before God and to future generations to do what we can to reduce and eventually reverse the impact on the environment caused by the burning of fossil fuels that power our cars, trucks, airplanes and much of our economy. For information about stewardship go to CatholicClimateCovenant.org

DID YOU KNOW? Ministry in Community Tips for Summer Camp Safety Summer is almost here. School is almost out, and a whole host of new opportunities for recreation and relaxation await. Maybe you are sending your children to a music or sports camp? Or maybe they have been invited by their friends to go camping in the mountains or at the beach? Whatever the situation, it is important to remember that parents still have the responsibility of controlling access that new people will have to their children. If your children are attending a summer camp, insist that counselors or anyone else who might have access to your children have undergone an application process that includes a criminal background check and reference checks. For additional resources from VIRTUS Online go to http://archla.org/safeguard Summer Safety Tips Can Help Prevent Child Sexual Abuse For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650. FACT OF LIFE: Natural and Essential Relationship The family is the original nucleus of society, the primordial foundation of social ties and the locus where the relations of tomorrow-- nuptial, parental, filial, fraternal--are cultivated. Each family, founded on the indissoluble union between a man and a woman, accomplishes its mission of being a living cell of society, a nursery of virtues, a school of constructive and peaceful coexistence, an instrument of harmony and a privileged environment in which human life is welcomed and protected, joyfully and responsibly, from its beginning until its natural end. In this regard, the singular and irreplaceable value of the family founded upon matrimony and the inviolability of human life from conception until natural death must be affirmed.... It is important that the natural and thus essential relationship between parents and their children be affirmed and supported, not undermined. Holy See statement to the U.N. Commission on Population and Development, April 24, 2012. Prayer for Life: Heavenly Father, I pray that my life would reflect my redemption so others may see it and trust in You. In obedience to You, and by your grace, I choose to forgive others as you have forgiven me. In the name of Christ my Redeemer I pray, Amen. Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith Live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. Galatians 5: 16-17 If you ever wanted to tell a little lie, take something that didn t belong to you or eat more than your share of pizza, you know how it feels to want something that s not right. The Holy Spirit keeps us close to Jesus by strengthening and guiding us, especially in times of trial and temptation. When we are willing to sacrifice a little so others can live better, we know the Spirit is living in us. Thanks, Holy Spirit, for showing me the way. Acts 2:1-11 Psalm 104: 1, 24, 29-31, 34 Galatians 5:16-25 John 15:26-27; 16:12-15 Summer Bible Camp!
