Welcome and Announcements Stewardship Moment Hannah Shelton Prelude *Call to Worship I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of Him shall be sweet, for I will rejoice in the Lord. Bless the Lord, O my soul; Praise the Lord. Amen. *Hymn of Praise Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty 64 Preparing Our Hearts *Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed 880 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. *Gloria Patri 70 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen. Amen. Reverend Thomas E. Weir, Pastor Emeritus at Asbury United Methodist Church Served as Senior Pastor of Asbury from 1993 to 2000. Appointed as Pastor Emeritus in 2008. Rev. Thomas E. Weir Meditation Garden and Columbarium Dedication Ceremony September 14th, 2014 9:40 am Asbury United Methodist Church 1700 Napa Valley Dr. Little Rock, AR 72212

REV. THOMAS E. WEIR MEDITATION GARDEN AND COLUMBARIUM September 14, 2014 9:40 am WORDS OF INTRODUCTION Rev. Mary Hilliard As the Rev. Thomas E. Weir Meditation Garden and Columbarium is a place to reflect upon God s Spirit in all aspects of our lives, we gather today to give thanks for the communion of saints, both living and dead. In this place we will discover joy and peace, knowing nothing, not even death, separates us from the love of God. LITANY OF PRAISE Rev. Mary Hilliard Pastor How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts! All My soul longs, indeed it faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Pastor Happy are those who live in Your house, ever singing Your praise. All Happy are those whose strength is in You, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. Pastor O Lord God of hosts, hear our prayer, give ear, O God of Jacob! All For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. Pastor For the Lord God is a sun and shield; He bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly. All O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in You. HYMN Hymn of Promise In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. There s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. PERSONAL WORDS Rev. Thomas E. Weir PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. David Moore BENEDICTION Rev. David Moore Asbury United Methodist Church wishes to acknowledge with thanksgiving those who worked to develop this project: Michelle Ator Brian Dale Bob & Becky Howeth Mikel Kullander Rev. On September 28 th at 2pm, we are going door to door in the Calais Forest and Turtle Creek apartment complexes. We will be handing out baggies with different assortment of goodies/food, along with an invitation to our Fall Festival which will take place on Sunday, October 12 th from 3-6 pm, and a listing of our worship times. We believe this is a great opportunity to reach out to people in our neighborhood. Most people are probably uneasy about going door to door, so there will be two opportunities for training. One will be held on September 14 th during Sunday School and the other will be on September 21 st at noon, following the worship services. Please be in prayer about this. The more people who volunteer and are a part of this, the more outreach we can do. Blessings, Pastor Chase Food Kits for the Homeless On May 18th this year, Change the World Day, many volunteers gathered in the Wilson Activity Center, assembly line fashion, and packed 200 food kits for the homeless. We have determined this to be a ministry that would benefit many year round, instead of just once a year. We will periodically have a date and time to build homeless kits. More information to come.
