10-22-2017 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Isaiah 45:1, 4-6 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b Ma hew 22:15-21 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don In today s Gospel, Jesus is full of surprises! When the enemies think they have laid the perfect trap for him, Jesus doesn t get caught. His questioners ask whether it is against God s law to pay taxes to the Roman emperor, a pagan ruler. If Jesus says yes, he will be in trouble with the Romans. If he says no, he will be in trouble with the majority of his own people. Jesus gives a masterful answer. He tells his questioners that if they use Caesar s money, then they have to pay for it. But they must also pay what belongs to God, who takes care of our needs. Jesus answer addresses a much more important issue: our relationship with God. As baptized Christians, we are reminded in today s Reading from Isaiah that it is God who has called us by name. Therefore we are citizens of a much larger entity: the kingdom of God. By virtue of our baptismal promises, we pledge our allegiance to God. This week spend some time reflecting on this passage. If Christ is truly at the center of our lives, He is present in all we do. Being a good citizen in the kingdom of God means creating a better word for all. Together as a family discern how you can be signs of God s love to everyone you meet. All Souls Day Mass 2017 Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery will be having its annual All Souls Day Mass on Thursday, November 2nd, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon with His Excellency, the Most Reverend Gerald M.
