This organization consists of the posterity of Thomas E. Ricks. Thomas E. Ricks lived a very active life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This collection is a mix of genealogical and historical information. Included are many primary source documents about the life of Thomas E. Ricks. Also included are a number of articles written about this important founder of the city of Rexburg. In addition to the wealth of information about Ricks, a file is included for each of his wives and each one of his children. This collection was donated to Ricks College by the Thomas E. Biographical History This collection was compiled and submitted by Dean R. and Lois Grover on behalf of the Ricks Family Organization. This organization consists of the posterity of Thomas E. Ricks. Thomas E. Ricks lived a very active life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. He was a colonizer among colonizers. He was one of the first settlers of the Mormon colony at Las Vegas; he helped to rescue the suffering Martin and Willie handcart companies of 1856. He was an early settler in Cache Valley and then in the Upper Snake River Valley. He was a well respected civic and religious leader in Southeast Idaho. He also helped to found the Ricks Academy which has evolved in to Brigham Young University Idaho. Dean R. Grover is the great- grandson of Thomas E. Ricks through Ricks first wife, Tabitha Hendricks. Scope and Content Note This collection is a mix of genealogical and historical information. Included are many primary source documents about the life of Thomas E. Ricks. Also included are a number of articles written about this important founder of the city of Rexburg. In addition to the wealth of information about Ricks, a file is included for each of his wives and each one of his children. These files contain genealogical information such as family group sheets and photocopies of important documents. Notes on Arrangement
The materials have been removed from their original folders, placed in acid-free folders, and their staples have been removed. Box 1: Files 1-9 deal with material specific to Thomas E. Ricks. Files 10-17 are biographical sketches on some of Ricks wives and children. Box 1, Files 18-23 contain genealogic information for Thomas E. Ricks and his wives, and Files 23-32 as well as Box 2: Files 1-34 contain genealogical information for each of Ricks children. The children s files are organized alphabetically. Box 3 contains genealogical information for other members of the Ricks family that were not Thomas Ricks wives or children. These files have been arranged alphabetically.
