Quranic & Prophetic Nurturing Program Surah An Noor Class 41 Date: 21 November 2018 / 13 Rabi Al Awal 1440 Introduction In Surah Al Baqarah, there are three types of people: the muttaqeen, disbelievers and hypocrites. Anyone who has taqwa then he will be successful in following the curriculum. The disbelievers reject the curriculum, but the hypocrites will follow it but they don t believe in it and this is worse. The disbelievers and hypocrites are both bad, but the hypocrites are worse because they re wicked. They show we re with you and we re your friend but they re enemies. The hypocrites are using their talk as a way to disguise their deception in normal times but when a situation happens on the spot then their reality shows. Ayah 52 و يتق ه فأول ئ ك هم ال فائ زو ن و من يط ع للا و رسوله و يخ ش للا And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger ( للا عليه وسلم,(صلى fears Allah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful. صلى للا عليه ( Messenger (And whosoever obeys Allah and His ) و من يط ع للا و ر سوله (.1 :(,( وسلم the word (طوع) means to bend and have no resistance, so the one who s obedient is not resisting. The obedience of the hypocrites is different from the obedience of the believers. The share of obedience for the hypocrites is with their tongue, but for the believers it s with their actions. Obedience requires listening so one is to: (التصديق لألخبار ( news 1. To believe in the (امتثال االمر واجتناب النهي ( prohibited 2. Follow what s commanded and abstain from what s but fears the people so he (جل جلاله) (fears Allah,): the hypocrite does not fear Allah ) و يخ ش للا ( 2. agrees to obedience in order to blend with the people. Ka ab ibn Malik (ra) told the truth for.(ﷺ) and not the Prophet (جل جلاله) not going to battle because he feared Allah understand. but the hypocrites do not know nor (خوف مقرونا بالعلم ( knowledge is to fear with (خشي) The hypocrites don t want to know the ayat because they fear these ayat will expose who they are. 1 P a g e

but he,(جل جلاله) (and keeps his duty (to Him),): a person can t only obey and fear Allah (و يتق ه ( 3. also needs to have taqwa. Taqwa is to not only to fear but take extra precaution. If there s no taqwa then a person will show too much fear of Allah (جل جلاله) to others. This similar to a lantern which adorns the glass and light inside. Taqwa covers and adorns the heart. Not everyone needs to see your love, tawakkul and fear of Allah.(جل جلاله) The hypocrite has no taqwa because he s following his desires. In Surah Al Araf 31: ( بن ي آد م خذوا ز ينتك م ع ن د كل مس ج د (يا (O Children of Adam! (خذوا ز ينتك م ( adornment Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes),) to take your includes wearing more than one layer. For example, in the office, no one can enter with just a t-shirt or slippers, so imagine for the masjid? Subhan Allah. fears Him and has,(جل جلاله) (such are the successful.): whoever obeys Allah ) فأول ئ ك هم ال فائ زو ن ( taqwa then they are ( (ال فائ زون the winners. The hypocrite thinks he s the winner by his fake attitude but the true winners are the ones who are struggling much but they don t show it. For example a good student fears when there s an exam but he s not telling others at the time of exam, I m so scared of it. Ayah 53 و أق س موا ب ا لل جه د أي مان ه م لئ ن أمر ته م ليخ رجن قل ل تق س موا طاعة مع روفة إ ن للا خ ب ير ب ما تع ملو ن They swear by Allah their strongest oaths, that if only you would order them, they would leave (their homes for fighting in Allah's Cause). Say: "Swear you not; (this) obedience (of yours) is known (to be false). Verily, Allah knows well what you do." The hypocrites use different types of swearing in order to make sure the Prophet (ﷺ) is not angry with them. They don t like it for others to turn away from them. (They swear by Allah their strongest oaths,): the hypocrites swear ) و أق س موا ب ا لل جه د أي مان ه م ( by Allah (جل جلاله) and the word (قسم) is to divide and section. They swear by Allah (جل جلاله) and not by something else because it would be shirk. So they know how to swear in order to show they.(ﷺ) so they can be accepted by the Prophet (جل جلاله) magnify Allah They re using Allah s name for their desires and this is entering a dangerous zone. Someone ) جه د أي مان ه م ( they,(جل جلاله) who s always swearing shows dishonesty. And when they swear by Allah which means they use all effort to show they re swearing by Allah (جل جلاله) with their speech and body language. 2 P a g e

(that if only you would order them, they would leave (their homes (لئ ن أمر ته م ليخ رجن ( for fighting in Allah's Cause).): when they don t come for something, they will say next time I will come and this is teaching us to not say, next time I ll come because it shows a person has some kind of fear of others or worries the other person will be displeased with him. Especially regarding worships, a person shouldn t say next time because it s like a vow. Acquiring knowledge is a worship and a person shouldn t fear others if he s unable to come. is to tell them don t swear because (ﷺ) (Say: "Swear you not;): the Prophet (قل تق س موا ( ل he doesn t need their swears or excuses. Why do the hypocrites give excuses to the Prophet him. Because they fear?(ﷺ) ((this) obedience (of yours) is known (to be false).): it s already known ) طاعة م عروفة ( when someone is applying the rules of Allah (جل جلاله) so there s no need to swear ( بدوم قسم.(انقياد For example a person doesn t need to say I swear I m going to pray. The one who swears regarding worships shows he doesn t want to do it; truthful people don t swear. Unlike the hypocrites who always swear in order to justify themselves. (Verily, Allah knows well what you do."): notice the name of Allah Al ) إ ن للا خ ب ير ب ما تع ملو ن ( Khabeer is mentioned because He s All-Aware of people s intentions, acts and talks. An action or utterance might look good from the outside but He knows what s behind it. It s important a.(جل جلاله) person is himself with Allah لئ ن آتانا م ن فض ل ه لنص دق ن و لنكون ن م ن الصال ح ي ن ( :75 Surah At Tawbah (And of them are some who ) و م ن هم م ن عاه د للا made a covenant with Allah (saying): "If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily give Sadaqah (Zakat and voluntary charity in Allah's Cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous.") The hypocrites make promises to Allah (جل جلاله) and break it so Allah (جل جلاله) imprinted hypocrisy in their hearts, astaghfar Allah. They are always commenting about others and say you are giving too much, you re not giving enough, etc. They ll always give excuses and make fun of others and the worst punishment for them in the duniya is there will not be a next time for them; they will be deprived. They always say next time I ll do so and so worship but a next time won t come because there will be some,(ﷺ) obstacle, subhan Allah. When they gave an excuse to not go to battle with the Prophet the next time they were deprived of it. Ayah 54 3 P a g e

Say: "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, but if you turn away, he (Messenger Muhammad للا عليه وسلم (صلى is only responsible for the duty placed on him (i.e. to convey Allah's Message) and you for that placed on you. If you obey him, you shall be on the right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to convey (the message) in a clear way (i.e. to preach in a plain way)." A person is not responsible for the guidance of others because Allah (جل جلاله) guides whomever He wills. When the light is shared with others, not everyone accepts it because Allah (جل جلاله) is All- Knowing of where to place that light. Within the Muslims are hypocrites and who s fault is it that there are hypocrites? The hypocrites (.(ﷺ) themselves so it s not a sin upon the Prophet (Say: "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger,): notice in this (قل أط يعوا للا و أط يعوا الر سول ayah it says to obey Allah (جل جلاله) and obey the Prophet (ﷺ) in the form of a command. So when a person wants to command others then it needs to be as clear as possible. It s understood that whoever obeys Allah (جل جلاله) and obeys the Messenger (ﷺ) then he will have the best and he will have happiness. happen? (but if you turn away,): as for the one who turns away, what will (فإ ن تو لو ا ( is only responsible (صلى للا عليه وسلم (he (Messenger Muhammad ) فإ نما علي ه ما حمل (.1 (حمل ( has for the duty placed on him (i.e. to convey Allah's Message)): everyone which are responsibilities and duties which we are being carried such as worships, knowledge, and rights. The Prophet (ﷺ) has the message, to show the truth and falsehood, to call the people and convey the message. This is his responsibility. (and you for that placed on you.): and carried upon us is to obey ) و علي كم ما حمل ت م ( 2. and follow. If someone turns away then then he himself is responsible. (If you obey him, you shall be on the right ) و إ ن تط يعوه ته تدوا و ما على ال رسو ل إ ل ال بل غ ال مب ين ( guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to convey (the message) in a clear way (i.e. to preach in a plain way)."): when a person obeys the Prophet (ﷺ) then he ll be guided and when a person disobeys him then he ll be misguided. We need to follow the Prophet (ﷺ) in order to be guided. To be continued in sh a Allah. 4 P a g e

How do we apply what we learned and change for the better? Fear Allah and have taqwa, do not fear the people Do not swear much May Allah (جل جلاله) make us among the winners and protect us from hypocrisy. Ameen. 5 P a g e
