What is the Conciliation Service? PCI s Conciliation Service was set up to support individuals and groups within churches who are struggling with a church- related conflict. The Service also provides training on related themes to Kirk Sessions and other leaders within churches and Presbyteries. Disputes and differences are part of life in the church (Matt.18:15-17, Acts 15:1-34). Scripture makes it clear that believers have resources for handling conflict when it arises. Most disagreements are resolved by people speaking directly to each other. Sometimes this is just too difficult and this is where the Conciliation Service can help.. Conciliation involves... Assisting parties in dispute to find resolution. Facilitating difficult conversations as people work through issues. Helping people to find creative ways to deal with conflict. Finding a way forward rather than judging the past. Conciliation training involves supporting leaders to explore ways of working together and decision making processes which will help to prevent conflict, and also to equip them to respond effectively to conflict when it arises. The Service is run by the Conciliation Panel under the Council for Training in Ministry. More information about the Conciliation Service can be found on the PCI website here: http://www.presbyterianireland.org/utility/about-us/councils/training-in-ministry/conciliation- Service.aspx What are the opportunities for those who are interested in joining? Training is being offered to those who are interested in becoming PCI Conciliators. This will take place in Hillhall Presbyterian Church (20th-21st October) and Hillsborough Presbyterian Church (17th-18th November): Friday 20th October, 7.00 9.30pm: Understanding Conflict and Its Causes Saturday 21st October, 9.30am 4.00pm: The Conciliation Process Friday 17th November, 7.00 9.30pm: Skills for Conciliation Saturday 18th November, 9.30 4.00pm: Conciliation in Action
