Messenger Mission Statement McCutchanville Community Church s mission is to connect our community with God s power and hope through the love of Christ. Greg Davis, Pastor Dear Spirit Filled Saints, 9505 Petersburg Road Evansville, IN 47725 (812) 867-5735 June 2018 On Sunday, May 20 th the entire Christian Church celebrated Pentecost so I was wondering if we are feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit with the same sense of power that the disciples did at Pentecost. With the birth of the Church, the disciples were inspired to move out beyond themselves and begin spreading the Gospel. Throughout June, the red colors on the altar table will be there to remind us of the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. The questions which are before us are these: Do we feel the Spirit? and Where is the Spirit moving us? The disciples suddenly were empowered to speak the languages of those about them so that they could bring Christ into their midst. It was a dramatic and powerful moment. If you don t recall the power, reread Acts 2. I have often wondered what would occur if something similar happened to us, whether during the week or at Sunday worship. Imagine the impact it would have on this church. All of us feeling the power at the same time moving out into the community and telling the story and, more importantly, showing the story. Are we able to speak and act in ways that our friends and those we come in contact with understand? Do we communicate the unconditional abiding love of Jesus Christ to all with whom we rub shoulders? More importantly, do we seek out those who are physically, emotionally, and spiritually in need of knowing that they are loved by God? At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples so that they could be the Church. Let me repeat that. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples so that they could be the Church. The disciples were scared, powerless and in hiding prior to the coming of the Holy Spirit. The thought of reaching out with the message of God s redemptive love for all was chained within. Jesus gave them the final pep talk at the Ascension and prepared their hearts and minds for the moment of Pentecost. When the moment came, they could not help themselves. They were so filled with the Holy Spirit that they had no choice but to evangelize. The event known as the Day of Pentecost was not just a one-time event. It is there for us, the Church, to experience day after day. Do we understand that we do not have to wait for the pouring out of the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is around us, through us, and within us. Once we recognize that, we experience the same empowerment that the disciples experienced on the Day of Pentecost. And, when a congregation of Christ s Church experiences that together, watch out! Blessings on all of you as you begin your summer. I pray that the rush of wind I hear will not be our usual summer storms, but will be a mighty release of spiritual power flowing out to McCutchanville, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana and all of the communities of which we are a part. Be Blessed and Be a Blessing, Pastor Greg

There will be no GOD S KIDS reporting during the summer but the end of year activities and memories are captured in pictures below. The Annual God s Kids Appreciation Dinner Was held on May 18th, 2018 The dinner is provided by McCutchanville Community Church to demonstrate to the staff and families of God s Kids how important they all are to the church. It was a very nice event and was well attended. Unfortunately, Gary Sprinkle was unable to attend this year but he was busy in the background and on his phone making certain all of the food was ordered and was delivered on time. Fried Chicken dinner and all of the trimmings was enjoyed by a large crowd. Pastor Greg getting everything ready for the crowd. Time to EAT!! Terri Schuetter, Director of God s Kids, is enjoying watching the families. Barb Doty is caught serving drinks! God s Kids Pre-K Graduation Ceremony on May 11. These children well be going to Kindergarten next year. Congratulations!! Those going into Pre-K had their spring Program on May 4th.

To my dear church family, I have been asked to give you an update on the progress concerning our old parsonage at 9401 Petersburg Rd. so; here is what I can tell you so far. During our monthly Trustees meeting, we discussed our budget for the property; how much are these renovations going to cost, would it be worth it and how long would it take to recover our investment? We determined it would cost between $60,000-$80,000 and that, depending on the amount of rent, we would recover that cost in 5-6 years making it a worthy investment. After meeting with the Trustees, we decided to bring our budget proposal to the Ad Council to go forward with renovating the house. During our monthly Ad Council meeting we discussed three proposals as to what we should do with the property. 1) Raze the home and sell the property 2) Sell our present parsonage and build a new one on the property 3) Renovate the property - If we would raze the home and sell the property, we would give up any future expansion possibility for that is the only place we could grow. - If we sold our present parsonage and built a new one, we would forfeit the income from it. - If we renovate, not only do we keep the income from the new parsonage on Clifton Dr., we also gain an additional $1200-$1500 per month from the renovated property. It was not unanimous, but we voted to renovate. I am not sure as to how soon I can make my residence there because I will need the septic system completed before I move. Cam Niedhammer, the installer, had an accident with his backhoe and is recovering from injuries. Please keep Cam in your prayers. Once we have the septic complete, I can move my camper in and concentrate on the interior of the home. We are planning on making some major changes to the interior. We will be closing up old doorways and making new ones. We are increasing the size of the kitchen and moving it into the dining area. The space the kitchen used to occupy will then be converted to a laundry/pantry. Both of the existing bathrooms will get a complete makeover and we will be adding a new ½ bath near the living room. We have already started cleaning up the property by cutting down dead and dying trees. Keith Kinney provided a mini-excavator and I have been using it to remove the vines, level the dirt and tear down an old shed. The metal roof from the shed was then sold, thanks to Pastor Greg for putting it on Craigslist, for $20. All in all it is looking better. In the coming days you will notice chimneys disappearing, a new roof installed, new septic system installed and the siding cleaned and painted. Hopefully, when it is all done, it will be something we can all be proud of. Sincerely, John Swope (Right: Proposed Kitchen area)
