We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Beatrice Hanger who passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at age 92. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 17 th in the Linden Presbyterian Church in Linden at 10 am. Interment was at Rosedale Memorial Park. Visiting hours were held at Werson Funeral Home in Linden from 2 4 and 7 9 pm on Thursday. Beatrice was born in Elizabeth and live d in Linden for 37 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Elizabeth and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Linden. Beatrice was predeceased by her granddaughter Jamie Cammarata and her beloved husband, Frederick B. Hanger, Sr. (October 3, 2001). She is survived by her children, Frederick B. Hanger (Nancy), Joy Marmorato (Domenick), Barbara A. Hurick (Edward), Betty L. Hoff (Arthur) and Joanne B. Murphy (Frank) and 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 785 Springfield Ave., Summit, N.J. 07901, in her memory would be appreciated. Beatrice was an active member of our church, attending church every Sunday until she began having some health problems. She eventually moved to south Jersey to be near her family and for the last years, lived at the Orchards at Bartley in Jackson, N. J. Our church secretary kept in touch with her by telephone until her last move when she no longer had her phone number. She was a lovely person and enjoyed hearing about the church and some of her long-time friends. BILL MARTIN, SR. In one of our previous Messengers we had an article and picture about the death of Bill Martin, Sr. on March 14, 2016. On June 11, 2016 a Memorial Service was held in our church sanctuary at 4:00 p.m. The church was filled with family and friends of Bill, many of who had wonderful stories about Bill. Some were serious and moving and some were funny and brought much laughter and joy as people recalled happy days. Rev. Robert Long led the service and the congregation enjoyed original poems and songs dedicated to Bill. Following the service everyone was invited into Aldersgate Hall to enjoy a meal together OUR SYMPATHY GOES TO THE FOLLOWING We recently read about the following deaths: Pauline Patricia Hasbrouck. She was the sister - in-law of our departed long-time member, Louise Hasbrouck and wife of Louis Hasbrouck, brother of Louise. Louise worked in the City Hall ever since she graduated from High School and retired as City Treasurer. Elizabeth J. Krause was the sister-in-law of longtime member George Fyffe. He was known by most of the citizens of Linden because he worked all his life in the A & P on Wood Avenue, right across from the church. He checked our church every day to make sure we had no problems. ******************************************

BITS AND PIECES Two of our long-time members, and very hard workers over many, many years, have had to give up their positions in the church because of health problems. Both Doris Stamer (Nurture Chairperson) and Gertrude Baldwin (Stewardship Chairperson) have led their committees for a very long time. They have had regular scheduled meetings over the past years to keep the congregation up-to-date on the plans the committees make. They have not been able to continue this recently because of their health and realized that it would be better for someone else to take over these responsibilities. You will be hearing from members of the Nominating Committee to fill these positions and others that also need to be filled. A special thank you to Doris and Gertrude for their caring and dedication to our church They saw a need and supported the church in any way they could! MaryJane Koslosky spent 2 ½ weeks in Maryland enjoying a visit with her friend of many years. MaryJane spends lots of time as a volunteer for the church and deserves a nice vacation! Called Marese Edwards over the weekend of June, 24 th, 25 th and 26 th to get some information and she returned my call from Texas! She was there for a weekend wedding. In June, Lorraine and Bob Carhart had a problem with a broken pipe - and their whole basement was flooded before the water could be turned off. Everything that was wet was ruined and had to be replaced. It took time to get it all fixed but by the time you get this Messenger it will be done! Marie Dziamba has been enjoying having Helia Molay spend a few hours with her a few days each week. They have entertained some members and the pastor who have visited with them and invite others to come and see them. The church office is almost completely redecorated. A generous donation was given by the Henel Family in honor of their mother, Doris Henel, and the 45 years she served as our church secretary. The donation was used to purchase all new office furniture, file cabinets and carpets. Any monies remaining at the completion of the remodel shall go into the endowment fund, which was established by Doris many years ago. We also thank the Board of Trustees for painting the room. The office now looks bright and cheerful and is a pleasure to spend time in there. Perhaps the room could also be used for small group meetings. We encourage you to stop by and see how nice it looks. The Dianne Long, Gregg Carhart, and Ethel and William Steiniger Scholarship will be given out on Sunday, October 9 th as we celebrate the 150 th anniversary of our church starting at 3:30 p.m. We hope that representatives of the Long, Carhart and Steiniger Families will be with us to present the scholarship and to also join us as we celebrate this special anniversary We were pleased to hear that Bernice Bedrick is home from the hospital and slowly recuperating. Bernice is a retired teacher and supervisor in the Linden school system. organizer of the start of the Friends of the Linden Library, a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Linden Library and former Senior Citizen of the year in Linden, and many other community projects in our city; Her son is planning a 100 th birthday Party for her in the early fall.
