Concordia Lutheran "The wind blows where it wills..." John 3:8 Church March 2019 N W 3705 Harwood Rd., Bedford, TX 76021 : 10:00 a.m. Pastor: Rev Mark Lasch Office Phone: 817-283-3560 Sunday 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. www.concordialutheran.org Roux Rue A few months ago Catherine and David came home with a new puppy. As we got to know her and learned of her personality we gave her the name Roux. The name has a double meaning on the one hand a Roux is used to bring substance to a Cajun sauce. On the other, one can learn to Rue the day that they made a bad decision and brought a tiny creature into their home to chew and make messes all over. Roux has turned out to be a pretty sweet little girl. She loves a good lap, she plays fetch inexhaustibly, she has learned where and when to use the bathroom, and has, in every realistic expectation, learned to fit into the family well. But if she s ever in trouble she goes into a corner, lowers her head, and piddles just a little bit. She knows when she s done wrong, and in the corner of her shame her fear overcomes her. Lent is a little like that for us. It s a season of the church year where we focus on our need for a savior. It is a time for us to examine our lives in light of God s Word and honestly reflect on the many ways we ve not kept it. When examining the Word of a Holy God it is easy to see the truth of our sin. I often say, Sin always separates, and on account of this separation it would be natural for us to feel propelled into a corner in fear and self-loathing. But Lent is not a time for us to wallow in our sin. It is a time for us to celebrate our Savior! We celebrate Him because He has chosen us. We celebrate Him because He knows us by name. We celebrate Him because He was willing to take on flesh to become one of us. We celebrate Him because He lived out His life in holiness and righteousness before our God. We celebrate Him because He was willing to be betrayed, and beaten, and crucified in redemption for your sins and mine. We celebrate Him because He said, Father forgive them for they know not what they do. We celebrate Him because if we know nothing else at all, we know He alone is our hope. We celebrate Him because He has given us His Word. We celebrate Him because He is the Word. We celebrate Him because He has promised us, No matter who you are, or who you ve been, my love is for you forever. A kind word and a loving pet is all it takes to bring Roux out of her corner. As you walk with me this Lenten Season hearing Jesus words from the cross, consider the promise they contain. Consider the hope that they give. For whether God s Word causes you to rue your sin or brings a roux full of substance to your life These Words testify about Him. And that is something to celebrate! E S

For Such a Time as This We're embarking on an exciting time for our congregation. For Such a Time as This is the theme for our stewardship emphasis. Through this emphasis, by studying God s Word together, we will grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is the guide of all our earthly decisions, and it should be with Him that we begin planning for our remodeling and expansion. A building is nothing more than a tool to do ministry. We recently celebrated our 50th anniversary of mission right here. Now, we need to plan on growth to not only match the needs of our current programs but to expand so that we can welcome others. It is our belief that both spiritual and physical growth will help us at Concordia to continue growing our ministries for years to come. Our Goal The goal for our stewardship emphasis is $450,000. This goal will be made up of initial cash gifts as well as three-year commitments toward the first phase of our building program. Contributions for the building project must be over and above our regular and proportionate weekly offerings. Learn More about For Such a Time as This You are invited to hear for yourself what this stewardship emphasis is all about during these upcoming presentations: Wednesday, April 3 Wednesday, April 3 Sunday, April 7 7:30 pm If you can't wait to learn more, or if you missed the voter's meeting presentation on February 24, you can find the slide deck, master plan and phase one drawings, as well as a message from Pastor Mark on our website at https://www.concordialutheran.org/for-such-a-time-as-this/ Please begin thinking about the opportunity God is placing before us. We believe God is calling each of us to grow in faith and generosity. Please keep the Stewardship Emphasis in your prayers. Remember, while "we don't go to church, we are the church. So let's go from here to be the church." But let's also build a place where we can welcome and prepare others to expand our presence in the community and in the world Sharing God's Love and Touching People's Lives. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Time, Talent, and Treasure For Such a Time as This is all about sharing your God-given gifts. That includes time and talent as well as treasure. Watch for our March 10 Volunteer Recruitment Sunday with a briefing and sign up opportunity at 10 am to share your time and talent.
