A reading from the Book of Wisdom God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the netherworld on earth, for justice is undying. For God formed man to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made him. But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who belong to his company experience it. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God
RESPONSORIAL PSALM ~ 30:2,45,5-61,12,13 R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. I will extol you, O LORD, for you drew me clear and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. O LORD, you brought me up from the netherworld; you preserved me from among those going down into the pit. R.I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. Sing praise to the LORD, you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger lasts but a moment; a lifetime, his good will. At nightfall, weeping enters in, but with the dawn, rejoicing. R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper. You changed my mourning into dancing; O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks. R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. SECOND READING ~ 2 CORINTHIANS 8:7,9,13-15 A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters: As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also. For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. As it is written: Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less. The Word of the Lord. GOSPEL ACLAMATION Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. R: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. 2 Thanks be to God Our Savior Jesus Christ destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel. GOSPEL~ MARK 5:21-43 PRIEST: The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark: Glory to you, O Lord When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea. One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, "My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live." He went off with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him. There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured." Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?" But his disciples said to Jesus, "You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'" And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction." While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?" Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid; just have faith." He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. So he went in and said to them, "Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child's father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum,"which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!" The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. At that they were utterly astounded. He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Presentation of the Gifts Priest: Pr ay, br other s and sister s, that my sacr i- fice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. All: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name, for our good, and the good of all his holy Church. Acclamations during the Eucharistic Prayer Preface Dialogue: Priest: The Lord be with you. Priest: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord. Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. All: It is right and just. Priest: Through him, with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. All: Amen. COMMUNION RITE Lord s Prayer All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Priest: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Sign of Peace Priest: The Peace of the Lord be with you always. Breaking of the Bread All: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace. Preparation for Communion (All Kneeling) Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. CONCLUDING RITE Priest: The Lord be with you. Priest: May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Priest: Go in peace. All: Thanks be to God! Great Amen 3
Good News Reflection How to touch the hem of Jesus' garment Wouldn't it be great if we could actually touch and feel the hem of Jesus' clothing, like the woman in this Sunday's Gospel reading? To be near enough to Jesus to be healed spiritually, physically, and emotionally. How can we, more than 2000 years after he ascended to heaven, get so close to him? It is possible, and it's exactly what Jesus wants. It comes from developing a better understanding of who Jesus really is and how much God really cares about us. The synagogue leader understood, which is why he could say: "Please, come lay your hands on my daughter that she may live." He understood Jesus beyond what was in front of his eyes. He believed in the divine life of Jesus. Knowing Jesus is to know divine life, which transforms our earthly life into something much more like his and then takes us to heaven. The first reading, remember, states clearly that death is not part of God's plan. Jesus drives this point home by allowing the girl to die before he reaches her house. Certainly God could have kept her alive until he got there! But he wanted to show the world that he could restore life and that he has the power to rescue us from death. If we fear death, we don't recognize the nearness of Christ. We can touch the hem of his garment, but we don't see it, and so we don't believe it. In this case, we're like the mourners that Jesus had to chase out of the house before working his miracle. If we fear that our trials are leading to disastrous conclusions, we've forgotten how powerful Jesus is, and we've forgotten that he cares enough to rescue us. We need to move ourselves closer to Jesus. We have to press on through the crowd of distractions and doubts, with our eyes fixed only on Jesus and our hands reaching out to him in prayer. If we fear that God doesn't care enough to help us, we need to spend more time learning why Jesus gave up his life for us and why the Father sent him to us. Questions for Personal Reflection: Do you believe that Jesus wants to work miraculously in your life? How has the disbelief of the people around you infected your thinking and reduced your faith? 4

Sacred Music New Organ For St. Michael Thank you very much to those who have donated already, we sincerely appreciate your generosity to this holy instrument. Why an Organ? St. Michael have three great instruments that we use. A piano that will be used for rehearsals and performances; a keyboard located in the choir loft for visiting keyboardists to be used in mass; and recently we have acquired a used Rodgers electronic organ from the Portland instrument distributor for a fair price. The organ is the most versatile, artistically, liturgically and pastorally appropriate in all our liturgies. In 2007 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a document entitled, Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship. This important statement addresses many aspects of Catholic Church Music. It has this to say about organs in churches: 87. Among all other instruments which are suitable for divine worship, the organ is accorded pride of place because of its capacity to sustain the singing of a large gathered assembly, due to both its size and its ability to give resonance to the fullness of human sentiments, from joy to sadness, from praise to lamentation. Likewise, the manifold possibilities of the organ in some way remind us of the immensity and the magnificence of God. 88. In addition to its ability to lead and sustain congregational singing, the sound of the pipe organ is most suited for solo playing of sacred music in the Liturgy at appropriate moments. Pipe organs also play an important evangelical role in the church s outreach to the wider community in sacred concerts, music series and other musical and cultural programs. For all of these reasons, the place of the organ should be taken into account from the outset in planning process for the building or renovation of churches. The United States Catholic Bishops makes several important observations in this statement. Perhaps the most important is the reference to the organ s ability to lead congregational singing. This is the organ s primary role in the liturgy. It is the most effective instrument for this purpose. Organ pipes are designed to mimic many sounds. Trumpets, oboes, strings, and flutes are all literally at one person s finger tips, but it is the principle sounds of the organ that are designed to support the human voice. When we gather on Sunday we don t only listen to songs as prayer, we generate the prayer with the songs we sing. The organ is an invaluable tool needed to support and inspire our prayer. Our next project / wish list are: 1. Altar Crucifix ~ to be used during mass 2. Altar Server Cassocks and Surplice. Please help us make our worship beautiful by giving towards these worthy projects. All generous donations are tax deductible. Thank you. Sanctuary Candle In Honor Of Lily Tobias If you wish to have the Sanctuary Candle burning in memory of a loved one, please call the office. Happy 4th of July Stewardship 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality. (2 CORINTHIANS 8:14) We are responsible not only for our own lives, but for the lives of those around us. It is important that we not only grow, nurture and share our gifts; but that we also teach our children and encourage others to do the same. This is the communal aspect of our Catholic faith. We are the Body of Christ. We are called to be dependent on each other and not live in isolation. St. Aloysius Marian Guild We need volunteers to help Rose Albin make Rosaries. We welcome any and all interested in this ministry. Rosary volunteers will meet at Rose s home to make the rosaries.
