2 9 REPORTS President (Lynne Bradley) Thanks to everyone who came to the Annual General Meeting for their support and patience on the day. We welcomed Moreyn Dimsey and Pam Tumath to the committee this week, they did survive their first committee meeting, it s just pure coincidence that they re both not here today! Please be patient with Moreyn she s taken on a huge job and it will take a little while before she s got the hang of it all. If you re a Research Room volunteer please talk to Pam about any concerns or ideas you have about your time in the Research Room as a volunteer, or member for that matter, she s very approachable and the biggest part of her job is to look after our volunteers. Congratulations to Marianne on another fabulous newsletter, also to Brenda W on winning this issue s writing competition. I m waiting on notification from members about a life writing workshop or classes, all information was in your newsletter, can you please let me know soon. We re going to change our Saturday meetings next year to the 3 rd Saturday of the month, we are still keeping our options open as to whether we have monthly meetings or bi monthly meetings with something in between. If you have an opinion about this can you please let me know sooner rather than later. Thank you to the three people who have made their opinions known so far, it was really helpful to hear from you. We ve got a few events coming up: - Lang Lang Cemetery Tour on 14 October - Ageing Positively Open Days 3, 4 and 5 October between 11 and 2 - Our first anniversary at Cranbourne Library will be recognised and celebrated on 24 September between 11 and 2 the library would like to do something so we re having a cake and would appreciate any members who are available to come on the day. Vice President (Fay McCoubrie) Nothing to report. Librarian (Moreyn Dimsey not in attendance read out by Eileen Durdin) Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for making me welcome. I am busy learning all the tasks and duties involved in being the librarian. A big thank you to Lynne Bradley who has been helping me out. I look forward to serving on the committee for the coming year. Membership Officer (Kerryn Maxwell) 80 members, which is good for this time of year. Thank you from Lynne Bradley to Kerryn Maxwell, Lyne McGregor, and Jane Rivett-Carnac for the efforts that they went to present Lynne with the Waiting for the Phone Award at the Annual General Meeting. Lynne was surprised and honoured, and it gave us all a laugh. Kerryn Maxwell presented Lynne with the second half of the award today. Publicity Officer (Wendy Goodwin) Notices went out to all the papers as normal but only saw this meeting advertised in one paper. Which was disappointing as Michael Madden was a very good speaker. It was suggested that Wendy try sending notices to the Dandenong Journal and other papers just outside the Casey Cardinia area. Research Room Manager (Pam Tumath not in attendance) No report submitted. Newsletter Editor (Marianne Rocke) Thanks for all the articles that made last edition of Spreading Branches 16 pages.
3 Casey and Cardinia Projects (Eileen Durdin) Thanks to Bev L who has indexed The Ellett Story - Compiled with failing memories and rich imagination for the Casey Cardinia Combined Index. Eileen read out a few excerpts from the book that were written by various contributors to the book about their Grandmas. Research Officer (Lynne Bradley) It s funny how things work out. At the last Heritage Festival, Upper Beaconsfield we were lent three books by a man with connections to the Moran family to scan for the Research Room. We were contacted a couple of weeks ago by a man in Sydney who wanted to know if we d be interested in helping him spread the word about an upcoming family reunion. When we got the initial information, we realised that one of the books had been written 30 years ago by this man s mother and he d not seen the other two books, so we sent him a copy. The 160 Years Anniversary of the McLellan-Moran- Duncan families is on 14 October at Hallam if anyone here has connections. There s a small bit in the newsletter, and we ll put this notice on the board in the Research Room feel free to copy it or email me for one of your own. Cemetery Tours (Jane Rivett-Carnac) Thank you to Kerryn Maxwell as she scribbled down notes on the layout of the Lang Lang Cemetery. These notes helped when planning our walk. This is our fifth and last military tour to be held on 14 October. Thanks to all who have contributed over the years. Reports Moved: Fay McCoubrie Seconded: Rex McFarlane Carried 10 GENERAL BUSINESS Next General Meeting: 7.30 pm, Wednesday, 10 October Location: Cranbourne Complex Meeting Room In-house Activity - "Interesting Headstones Story" (show and tell) Meeting closed at 4.10 pm Raffle was won by: Judy B
