Library Update Newly acquired print titles now available in the library Attacking Poverty in the Developing World: Christian Practitioners and Academics in Collaboration by Judith M. Dean The needs of the poor in developing countries for more productive and satisfying ways to earn their living and for better nutrition, education and health care are tremendous. God in his grace moves his people to contribute money, skills and other resources to meet these needs, often through the work of Christian development organizations. But the resources available are limited, and the call to exercise good stewardship over them is pressing. This book equips Christians with skills for thoughtful stewardship : the application of God-given analytical abilities in making the most of the limited resources available. Faith and Wealth: A History of Early Christian Ideas on the Origin, Significance, and Use of Money by Justo L. Gonzalez Ideas pertaining to economics and social order were central concerns of the early Christian church, yet modern theologians and scholars have paid little or no attention to these issues as important theological questions. This brilliant and thorough study is a history of the views that Christians held of the origin, significance and use of wealth. Justo Gonzalez examines early Christian ideas, beliefs and teachings about the use of money, property, communal sharing and the rights and obligations of rich and poor. Beyond Sex Roles: What the Bible Says about a Woman s Place in Church and Family by Gilbert Bilezikian This biblical and theological study offers an accessible examination of the key texts of Scripture pertinent to understanding female roles, affirming full equality of the sexes in family and church. The author avoids using scholarly jargon and complex argumentation in the main text of the book to encourage readers to interact with the biblical research. The aim is for nonspecialized readers to be able to follow his discussion step by step, evaluate arguments, consider alternative views, and arrive at independent conclusions. Jesus Have I Loved, but Paul? : A Narrative Approach to the Problem of Pauline Christianity by J. R. Daniel Kirk Readers of the Bible are often drawn to Jesus s message and ministry, but they are not as positively inclined toward Paul. What should people who love Jesus do with Paul? Here Pauline scholar J. R. Daniel Kirk offers a fresh and timely engagement of the debated relationship between Paul s writings and the portrait of Jesus contained in the Gospels. He integrates the messages of Jesus and Paul both with one another and with the Old Testament, demonstrating the continuity that exists between these two foundational figures.
