"The Light" Newsletter November 2017 Edition

Newsletter Nov 2017 From the Interim We know we are in liminal space, betwixt and between, on the threshold and we have to stay here until we have learned something essential. It is still no fun and filled with doubt and demons of every sort. But it is the darkness of being held closely by God without our awareness. This is where transformation happens. Pastoral Search Committee (PSC) The key leadership of the congregation and myself will be working from your nominations to solicit the willingness of people to sever on our PSC. We will present them on the first Sunday in Dec. to bless and dedicate them to their task. Advent traditions Two traditions I would like to share with you while I m you interim one is my Advent banner that I made many years ago and have shared with most of my churches I have severed. This banner has a Chi (P like symbol) and the Rho (the X like symbol) coming out of a manger. These two letters in Greek is the name of Jesus. The second tradition I would like to share is a reading of children s book during the weekly advent services. I will share my favorite of them The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski most time I find the adults liking the book more than the children. Wednesday Study/Special Will be wrapping up the study of Falling Upward in Nov. and then two special events- Dec 6 the interim and the question box- During November you can submit questions to the interim and he will do his best to answer them on this Wednesday night Dec 13 a Blue Christmas service

A quite service of reflection for people who are struggling the holiday cheer a time to grieve and remember Worship Nov 5 All Saints Sunday - Sermon: Saints I have known Nov 12 Sermon: Fishing for money Nov 19 Sermon: Giving like Jesus gave Nov 26 Reign of Christ Sunday guest preacher Kay Young CHURCH TIDBITS ANNUAL REPORTS ALL COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS NEED TO TURN IN AN ANNUAL REPORT TO THE OFFICE BY NOVEMBER 12 TH. THE CONGREGATIONAL MEETING WILL BE ON DECEMBER 17 TH.

Pull Tabs Bring Help to Ronald This is how it works. It s like the old time Pony Express. The rider started out with the mail to deliver on a fresh horse and rode to the way-station. He left the tired horse there and rode on a fresh horse to the goal. You bring in can pull-tabs and I collect them. Then I m the tired horse that takes them to the way-station (The Campbell County Retired Teachers Association meeting.) There the fresh horse (one of our members J.B. Losey) takes all the tabs the retired teachers have brought in to the Ronald McDonald House and the man who receives them. That man tells J.B. that the Campbell County Retired Teachers Association is one of the biggest donors to the House. And J.B. tells him that the good people of St. Paul s Church in Alexandria are by far the biggest donors of what he brings in. Your last donation consisted of 36,000 tabs! That s how you have become known as the good people of St. Paul s Church in Alexandria. F.Y.I. - Our Ronald McDonald House makes about $27,000 a year from recycling tabs. I hope this explains our can-tab collection. Thanks for being who you are. Donna Mader
