C h u r c h L i f e U p d a t e s Welcome Back to Wayne Hager: Dr. Wayne Hager was the pastor at Calvary from July of 1998 to June of 2009 and has served as the parttime Church Administrator at First Baptist Church of Raleigh since March, 2015. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Wayne is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, with additional graduate work at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a certified Intentional Interim Minister and has served as the Co-Coordinator of the Greater Triangle Area CROP Hunger Walk which benefits six Triangle area agencies working to alleviate hunger. Wayne's wife of 33 years, Rev. Joy Crutchfield Hager, passed away at Christmas time in 2015 after a courageous fight against cancer. Joy and Wayne have three adult children: Matthew, Nathan (spouse Mary), and Laura (spouse Cody). In late September 2018 Wayne will be a first time grandfather. We are grateful for his presence and look forward to hearing from him as we celebrate Calvary s anniversary. Anniversary Offering: This year s anniversary offering will be used to make needed renovations to the front entrance of the Sanctuary. We encourage you to consider supporting our efforts to maintain and beautify our church facilities. If you have any questions about the project, please contact a member of the Building and Grounds committee. Goodbye to Good Friends: In the last few years, Calvary has been blessed to have Gary and Dixie Traylor participating in the life of our church family. A new job has now taken the Traylors to Indiana. If you d like to send them a note, their new address is: 538 Windborough, Brownsburg IN 46112. Understanding Church Safety: Kevin Westmoreland of the Mount Airy Police Department will be leading a discussion about church safety in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, May 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. Please join us for this informative discussion about how we can work together to insure that Calvary provides a safe and welcoming environment for all. Port-A-Pit Chicken: This Friday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. is our Port-a-Pit Chicken Youth Mission Fundraiser! Plates are $10 each and includes 1/2 chicken, baked beans, slaw, roll and dessert. J.O.Y. Trip: The J.O.Y. group is heading to Blandwood Mansion in Greensboro on Wednesday, May 23. To reserve your ticket ($7 each) please contact Teresa Martin by May 16. We will leave the church at 10 a.m., go on the tour and then have lunch in Greensboro. Invite a friend to enjoy the day with us! Today s altar flowers are placed in honor of Wayne Hager and family by Roger and Anita Greene.
