Historical Note: The Feast of Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ) This Feast goes back to the 13th Century, but is based on something far older..the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. Holy Thursday also celebrates the institution of this Sacrament, but the Church felt that Holy Thursday was overshadowed by the Lord s Passion on Good Friday. Thus, in 1246, Bishop Robert de Thorete of Liege, Belgium convened a synod which adopted Corpus Christi for his diocese. Love for the Feast spread, so that in 1264, Pope Urban IV issued the bull Transiturus which extended the celebration through the universal Church on the Sunday after Trinity Sunday. Pope Urban asked St. Thomas Aquinas to compose Corpus Christi prayers for the Liturgy of the Hours & from that source, we have the Eucharistic hymns Pange Lingua Gloriosi and Tantum Ergo Sacramentum.

Labor Day Festival Executive Committee The LDF Executive Committee will meet for the second time on Sunday, June 26th after the 8 am Mass.
