Epiphany 3 Year C Psalm 19 - The heavens declare the glory of God The Christian faith recognizes two ways in which God has made his revelation to us: through nature and through grace. Through Creation and through Holy Scripture is another way of saying the same thing. These are the two means that God has given us through which to know Him. (Reardon, 35) Psalm 19 is divided into two sections. The first section, verses 1-6, talks of how creation speaks to us of the glory of God. The second section, verses 7-14, likewise affirms that the Law (Torah) reveals God s glory to us. Through these to things, God reveals himself to everyone. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. As we read these verses we cannot help but have a vision of the vastness of God s creation with its heavens beyond our comprehension, the sky that goes on forever and the sun and moon that rules the vast space above. They speak to us of things that are far too great for words. Awe is a word that comes to mind when reading these verses awe, not only for the vastness of creation, from the smallest microbes to the many thousands of galaxies that are strewn across the universe but for the God who created them for our pleasure. Imagine that for our pleasure. God s revelation of his glory, however, does not stop there. God has revealed himself in the Law of God. From our Christian perspective, this is the gospel of Christ who came to fulfil the Law and to provide the best revelation of God yet, himself. The gospel, the Scriptures, the Law of God, which reveals God s glory, also provide a guide for the way in which we should live our lives. Our prayer, then, as we continue to journey through this season of Epiphany, should echo the words of the psalmist who says, Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. May we constantly pray this prayer as we seek to live in the wonderful glory of God. Grace and peace. Allan A Working Bee is scheduled for Saturday 2 February 2019 from 8am.
