Pupil Chaplaincy Newsletter School/Home/Parish May 2017 Issue 3 Hello everyone and welcome to the third issue of our Pupil Chaplaincy Newsletter. We hope that you all had a happy and blessed Easter. The Pope s Monthly Prayer Intentions for May Please remember to pray for Christians in Africa; that in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, they may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice and peace. April was a very important and busy month for our school. Each year group took part leading an assembly telling the story of the Lord s Passion. Year 6 performed and read the Stations of the Cross. Liturgical Assembly The Pupil Chaplains also helped to prepare and take part in the St George s Day Liturgical Assemblies led by Mrs Lumber and Ms McBride. Steward of the Gospel On Friday 7 th April we met with Mr Guye to learn about his role as Steward of the Gospel for our Parish. He told us

about the meetings he had attended at Brentwood Cathedral and how the Bishop would like stronger ties between all the Parishes. First Holy Communion St Peter s Church On Saturday 6 th May some of our children will be making their First Holy Communion. Please keep them in your prayers at this very special time. Bible Study/Reading There will be no Bible Study session on Monday 8 th May as we will be preparing for our SATs. Please keep us and all of our friends in Year 6 in your prayers at this very important time. First Friday Prayer Group Our First Friday Prayer Group will be held on Friday 5 th May, weather permitting we will be using the Reflection Area in the school. Prayer Box At the back of the Infant Hall on the chaplaincy table is a prayer box. If you would like prayers said for any special intentions please would you use the prayer intention paper on the table and post it in the box.

Good Shepherd Prayer Room We now have a Prayer Room. This room is a quiet space for reflection and prayer. We will be using it when we research topics for our various groups; Prayer Group, Justice and Peace Group, Bible Study group, fundraising ideas and of course our newsletter. It will also be a home to our ever expanding resources. Our hope is that pupils and staff alike will make good use of this room. Although a date hasn t been set for the blessing of The Good Shepherd Prayer Room it is hoped that Father Edward will be coming in during the next few weeks to do so. Mary s Meals The Pupil Chaplains are interested in fundraising for Mary s Meals. This is a charity whose aim is to provide children from the poorest parts of the world with at least one good meal per day. As May is the month of Mary we thought this would be an appropriate cause. Our idea is for a colour themed day. All children should come to school wearing blue the colour associated with Our Lady. The children could donate 1 towards the cause and the day could begin with prayers dedicated to Mary, The Mother of Jesus. They could also watch a powerpoint presentation showing the work done by this worthy charity.

Centenary Year Please continue to keep Bishop Alan and our Diocese of Brentwood in your prayers during this very special year. Important Dates for this Month St Joseph the Worker St Philip and St James, Apostles The English Martyrs Our Lady of Fatima St Bede, the Venerable St Philip Neri St Augustine of Canterbury Ascension Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary 1 st May 3 rd May 4 th May 13 th May 25 th May 26 th May 27 th May 28 th May 31 st May Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter.
