About 100 members are expected from around IL and WI. Saturday, June 18: Card-Game Night from 5:30-7:30 Bring some cards or games & a snack to share! Saturday, June 25th: Faith Lutheran CRUISE-IN; The Brat Stand will be open through the event, which will be held from 4-8 pm. DJ: our very own Rick Dunaway! What is a Cruise-in? It s a short, informal car show, over several hours on a weeknight or single weekend day. It s free to attend, both for spectators and for participants. Cruise-ins are gatherings of people who drive their classic or muscle cars on a regular basis or people who just like to look at cars. The cars displayed at a cruise-in are often parked by arrival time, and friends who drive to the event together can park near each other, making the event more of a social gathering of friends! PRELUDE Faith Lutheran Church Faithfully Growing, Welcoming, and Caring through Christ WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS We warmly welcome guests from our neighboring mission congregation, Open Arms Lutheran Church in Rockton. Everyone is invited to stay and have coffee and treats after church...please plan to join us in the Fellowship Room! We will have a NOISY CAN collection today for their benefit. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. First Sunday after Pentecost ~ The Holy Trinity Sunday, May 22, 2016 9:30 am P: God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. (Brief pause.) Most merciful God, C: We confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P: In the mercy of Almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ~ OPENING HYMN ~ Did you know we have a SUNSHINE COMMITTEE? INTRODUCTION P: O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Today we celebrate the name of God: holy blessed Trinity. There is no other day quite like this one in the church s year. There is no other god like ours. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Our Brat Stand Is Now Open! Our famous Brat Stand is now open for business. Come on down & eat...the profits pay for our new roof, and a portion of our proceeds go towards the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. It takes a village to keep this going all summer long. There are jobs to be done in addition to cooking and working inside the stand. If you have any questions, please see Anne Strasser, Pat Wicks or Kathy Strasser. BOOK CLUB NOTES We are currently reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. This has been made into a movie, soon to be released. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, June 7 in the office at 6:30pm. We gladly welcome new members, and you do not have to be a member of Faith Lutheran Church! PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Let us pray. ALL: Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One, and we praise your power, majestic One-in-Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Children s Church After the children s message, they are dismissed for Children s Church. Their teacher will accompany them downstairs. FIRST READING PROVERBS 8:1-4, 22-31 R: A reading from Proverbs, the 8th chapter Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. The LORD created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.

When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth - when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world s first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race. R: Word of God, Word of Life C: Thanks be to God! PSALM 8 ~ A Responsive Reading R: O LORD our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! C: You whose glory is chanted above the heavens out of the mouths of infants and children; you have set up a fortress against your enemies, to silence the foe and avenger. R: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, C: what are mere mortals that you should be mindful of them, human beings that you should care for them? R: Yet you have made them little less than divine; with glory and honor you crown them. C: You have made them rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet: R: all flocks and cattle, even the wild beasts of the field, C: the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes along the paths of the sea. R: O LORD our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Jesus said, I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason, I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. P: The gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

THE LORDS PRAYER WORDS OF INSTITUTION Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. COMMUNION PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION P: We give you thanks, O God, that you make your home with us, bringing heaven to earth in this holy meal. Fill us with your Spirit as we go from here, that we may wipe away tears, tend to those in mourning and pain, seek the healing of the nations, and bring to earth the presence of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen BLESSING P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord s face shine on you with grace and mercy. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you peace. The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P: Rejoicing in the triune God, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God s creation. O Lord our sovereign, your name is majestic in all the earth. Enliven your church by your Spirit to live into the name bestowed on us in baptism.
