Dear Friends in Christ, It is quite appropriate that in this early part of the summer season we have a gospel related to the planting of seeds. Although gardens are usually planted in the spring, I know from personal experience that they have to be tended to so that there may be an abundant harvest later in the fall. Today, Jesus speaks to us about the Kingdom of God and he compares it to a seed as small as a mustard seed which grows and becomes very large. This is how He speaks to us of the Kingdom of God and how this Kingdom grows very much in time. The Kingdom grows and we grow with it. The Kingdom becomes very large all at once and is large enough for all who want to be a part of it. Our faith begins as a small seed planted within us at our baptism. Then, as we mature and grow, our faith grows along with us. We walk by faith and not by sight. That is why we sometimes fail to realize how our faith grows within us. Yet, it is like the Kingdom of God. So, let us continue to flourish like the palm tree (as we prayed about in our Psalm Response). Let us bloom in the knowledge and love of the merciful God. Then, one day we will rejoice in the large and wonderful Kingdom of God! It is my sad duty to inform you of the death of Mr. Joseph (Joe) Homminga. His funeral Mass was held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Cadillac, Michigan on June 12, 2018. Amongst his survivors is his wife, our fellow parishioner, Mary, his son Brian (Dawn) and other relatives. Let us pray for Joe and all of our deceased: Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace, Amen This past week we welcomed two little children into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism. Jillian Rose Jensen and Genevieve Elizabeth Bernitt were baptized into the faith recently. Let us pray for them as they begin their faith journey united with Christ. It is with the most profound sense of gratitude that I thank everyone who has donated or pledged to our Emergency Roof Campaign. Having secured the necessary funds, we have now begun the process for the repair of the roof. In fact, I was in Marquette a couple of weeks ago along with Ernie and Sharon Szydlowski, and we met with diocesan officials to begin necessary application for the work to begin. There are still a few details to hammer out but none of these are related to the funding for the project. It is definitely a go!!! Much of this has to do with your generosity which reflects your love of God s Church! So, very shortly, we will begin our roof project $ 4,939.15 SFDS Roof $ 14,790.00 $ 50.00 TOTAL $ 103,432.05 TOTAL $ 18,027.10 and have it completed by the end of the summer maybe before. Along the same lines, we are looking at completing the west side door project. This will involve installation of railings for the entranceway. However, a fund raiser is not needed at this point. Also, we will look at repairing the water damage that was done to the Church interior. But, again, we do not anticipate a fund raiser for this either. I will keep you informed through the bulletin announcements and in other announcements as is necessary and possible. So, THANK YOU! For stepping up to the plate to help us out. The much needed repairs to the Church will begin very, very soon By the way, speaking of announcements, I am glad that we have moved the church announcements to just prior to the opening of the Mass. We are social people and we like to talk to each other. This moving of the announcements and the opportunity to greet each other seemed to be a good idea. I will continue this at least for the foreseeable future. There may not be many visitors here in the winter but you never know. As always, your comments are encouraged and welcomed. That s it for now. Our story continues. Pray for me as I pray for you! Remember: Smile! God loves you and so do I! Choose life! ~ Fr. Ben Our Emergency Roof Repair Fund Drive has Officially Ended! and WITH OVERWHELMING SUCCESS!! THANK YOU to EVERYONE who turned in your pledge sheet and/or payment so quickly. It was a busy couple of weeks but with your faithful commitment to our parish we were able to raise the necessary funds to cover the estimated cost of replacing the church roof here at St. Francis de Sales. Please our facebook page **Payments on pledges are still being accepted** Again, if you have any questions, please don t hesitate to ask.
