SUNDAY PRE-SCHOOL Calling all families with children ages 3-5--- Sunday Preschool is getting ready to start another wonderful year! Starting Sunday, September 22, your 3, 4, and 5 year old child(ren) are welcome to join us during the 9:30am Mass. In this class, we learn about a Bible story, create crafts, sing songs, and sometimes play games. It s always a lot of fun for the kids, and great for parents to be able to participate more in the Mass! Contact Erin McMillian airbear41@hotmail.com to register your child today! Need service hours? Sunday Preschool offers opportunity for teen and adult volunteers to assist the class during the 9:30am Mass starting September 22. You would arrive by 9:15 in the Pre-K classroom at school and be responsible for helping the kids have fun and learn, and occasionally help me organize materials for the class. Each Sunday you help, you can count 1.5 hours of service and it s always fun! Contact Erin McMillian airbear41@hotmail.com to get started.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION "MY CHILD, you need not know much in order to please Me; only love Me dearly. Speak to Me as you would talk to your mother, if she had taken you in her arms. Have you no one to recommend to Me? Tell Me the names of your relations, of your friends; after each name add what you wish Me to do for them. Ask a great deal: I love generous hearts that forget themselves for others. The hours that are needed to be filled are: Tuesday @ 2am, Wednesday 3am & 4am and Friday 7pm. Please call Jennifer @ 636-940-9858 or Jan @ 636-947-4654 if you would like to sign up for a holy hour. Thank you! A COMBINED DVD SERIES AND BOOK STUDY ON THE MASS For the past several weeks as we have been touring the sixth chapter of St. John s Gospel on the bread of life, I have been encouraging your participation in a six part series through which we will be taking a closer look at the Mass. Those gatherings will be Wednesdays, September 5, 12, & 19 and October 3, 10, & 17, from 7:00 until 8:30 PM in our Parish Hall. This effort will combine viewing Bishop Robert Barron s DVDs and using Edward Sri s book as a companion text. I plan to order copies of his book for all participants. Let me know ASAP if you are interested so I can order enough books. Fr. Jim Benz (636-946-6327) Each Friday, August 3- September 28, answer the U.S. bishops call to pray and fast that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. Life Has Purpose: 42 nd Annual Respect Life Apostolate Convention The convention is on October 28 at the St. Charles Convention Center. The event includes Mass with Archbishop Robert Carlson, workshops, exhibits, and a keynote address by Ryan Bomberger, who co-founded along with his wife, the Radiance Foundation. The convention is a FREE EDUCATIONAL EVENT. Only the keynote luncheon requires preregistration and a $45/seat cost. Sign-up for the keynote luncheon at: https://prolifestl.regfox.com/2018-respect-lifecovention The gospel today hits home closer than we may think. What traditions do we blindly cling to? Perhaps it is enough for us just to go to Mass on Sunday? Do we keep the letter of the law and miss entirely the spirit of the law. Interior righteousness means a heart turned to God. Purity of heart is expressed in righteous living: self-giving for the sake of others. As you give your gift to the poor through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, in your heart you also will find the good news of God s love. SAVE THE DATE! All couples celebrating a milestone anniversary (25, 50 or over 50) will have the opportunity to receive a special blessing at the 9:30 Mass on October 21, 2018

ST. PAUL S CHALLENGING WORDS IN LAST SUNDAY S 2ND READING: Eph. 5:21-32 Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord...Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church. Please note the information below especially the two recordings; good thoughts to consider: THE PROFOUND WISDOM OF THE COMIC STRIPS ON MARRIAGE: BUT HOW DOES A COUPLE GET FROM DUSTIN AND THE DUPLEX TO FUNKY WINKERBEAN? 1) One program I really look forward to catching on Sundays at 1:00 PM on NPR (KWMU 90.7 FM) is Krista Tippett s On Being. These broadcasts offer so many tremendous testimonies and insights. One On Being broadcast that I thought was really great was the program I heard on August 5th in which she interviewed Alain de Botton with the title of The True Hard Work of Love and Relationships. It can be heard at https:// radiopublic.com/onbeing/ep/s1!7eb82. Here is a summary of that program, Philosopher and writer Alain de Botton's essay "Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person" was one of the most-read articles in The New York Times in recent years. As people and as a culture, he says, we would be much saner and happier if we reexamined our very view of love. Nowhere do we realistically teach ourselves and our children how love deepens and stumbles, survives and evolves over time, and how that process has much more to do with ourselves than with what is right or wrong about our partner. The real work of love is not in the falling, but in what comes after. When you have about an hour, please do yourself and your spouse a favor by listening to it together. 2) Another presentation I found great was a podcast on Ascension Presents entitled Girl Friends by Danielle Bean. The one I heard was entitled Fight Fair in Your Marriage. You will find it at http://daniellebean.com/ blog/, and then look for podcast #125. In part, this is what she says, Our topic this week is conflict in marriage. How can we handle the inevitable disagreements that come in our married relationships with maturity and grace? I share some ideas for what I consider fighting fair, but I want to hear yours too! I answer listener Bridget s recent question on this topic with the following ideas: 1) No name calling LAST CALL ON DEEP DIVE STUDY OF THE MASS 2) Check in with them about what they are saying Please note that this series begins this coming Wednesday evening, September 5. Though you may not have 3) No using the D word (divorce) 4) No threats, physical or otherwise signed up in advance, please come anyway. We will have 5) Stick to the topic at hand extra books available for you to pick up at that time. Remember: we will meet at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall. 6) Don t use absolutes or accusatory language 7) Take a break when you need to Please listen to it so you too can say, We d have to invent a new language to describe how happy we are today.

That Man Is You will be held in the Parish Hall on Saturdays from September 8 through December 8, 6:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.. The theme for this semester is Revelation of the Father as we help men understand and fulfill the desires they have in their hearts to truly live a life that manifests the goodness and mercy of God the Father. For more information, contact Pat Lepski, 314-406-8755 or at Patrick_Lepski@hotmail.com. A luscious breakfast is included, and there is no charge to participate. We hope to see you there! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) inquiry sessions begin Thursday September 13 th at 7:00 PM in the Duchesne Room located in the Parish Center. It is not too late to invite a family member, friend, neighbor or co-worker to explore the prospect of the Catholic faith. Now is a great time to invite them to inquire about learning more about the Catholic faith, becoming Catholic, or to re-energize their Catholic faith. Contact Deacon Mark at 636-946- 6327 ext. 1712 or at mmccarthy@saintcletus.org for more information. The Cornerstone will lead you on a faith journey that can transform your heart and mind. Please consider joining us as we begin our study of Revelation, God s message of hope. St. Cletus Branch has sessions on Mondays from 11am - 12:45pm and will begin Monday, October 1 st, 2018. Please contact Jan DuBray at 947-4654 for more information or to register. We will hold an orientation for visitors that day also. Be a friend and bring a friend!
