Amen Catholic Appeal 2018 Strengthening Our Family of Faith St. Kateri Parish Goal for 2018 - $39,518.00 Parishioners of St. Kateri Parish have a long history of showing their commitment to the Diocese of Portland by supporting the Catholic Appeal. Many thanks to all parish families who have made a pledge to the 2018 Catholic Appeal. If you would like to make a gift to support the Annual Appeal and have not already done so, envelopes are available at the entrances of our churches. Your gift helps to support vital ministries and services throughout our diocese. Thank you in advance for your consideration, and on behalf of the thousands of people who are the recipients of those ministries and services, thank you very much! As of August 23, week 14, we have reached 83% or our parish goal with pledges totaling $32,867.00 with 131 gifts. Thank you for your support! The strength of the family lies in its capacity to love and to teach how to love. - Pope Francis Down East Hospice Volunteers of Washington County is providing a volunteer training in September at the Calais Hospital. The dates are Sept. 12, 14, 17, 18, 21. All 5 days must be attended. DEHV is a nonprofit and has been providing volunteer hospice support to our communities in Washington County since 1981. Hospice emphasizes concern for the quality of remaining life with a goal of making people feel more cared for and less alone. There is no special background needed. Being a good listener, providing companionship and emotional support, respite for care givers, maybe doing a few helpful chores or errands. You will not be asked to take a client on in a situation that you find uncomfortable. You can pick the times you are available. We want you to join our team. If you want to attend the training, but are not ready to work with a hospice client at this time, you are still welcome. You will have to attend all five days. This training would be helpful for anyone who is caring for, or considering caring for, a family member, friend or neighbor, possibly in the future or right now. This training if free due to grants, donations and fund raising events. Are you willing to give a couple of hours a week to someone who could use some company to watch a movie with, a favorite TV show, play cards, read to your client, and listen to their stories? Just sitting quietly, holding someone's hand does make a difference. Applications can be picked up at the Calais Hospital reception desk or at the Calais Free Library. You can also call 454-7521 ext. 126 or e-mail downeasthospice@yahoo.com for an application. A preinterview is required prior to the training. Please get you applications in soon. Jesus healed a deaf man, so that for the first time he could hear and talk clearly. What would you listen to? What would you say? Prayer - Dear God, you are so amazing. Thank you for healing the deaf man. Help me to use my ears and my voice to praise you. Something to Draw - Draw a picture of all the things you like to listen to. Mission for the Week - Go to the library and find out how to say "Jesus loves you" in sign language. On the way home, pretend you cannot hear or speak.
