Blessing of the CWS Blankets Leader: Let us pray. God of great love who taught us all compassion, we continue to share the blessings that we have received from you with our neighbors. People: Who are our neighbors? Leader: A mother sheltering her children from the cold. A family looking for a new home. A homeless person living on the streets. May we recognize them as God's children. People: How will these blankets help? Leader: The blankets we bless today represent our compassion for our brothers and sisters. With the blankets we send our love and our witness to the presence of God's divine nature in our world. People: We bear witness. Leader: That the people who donated these blankets will provide a blessing of God's love in this world. People: We send our love. Leader: Acknowledging that we first received this love from God and pray that in so sending these blankets that God's grace will spread far and wide. People: This is our prayer. Leader: Bless the givers, the blankets we provided, the work of Church World Service to deliver the blankets on our behalf and the lives of all who receive our blankets, with God's great love. All: Amen. Prayer for the Blessing of the Blankets Leader: Gracious God, you have given us so many good gifts. Help us to share these gifts with others. People: God of love, grant our prayer. St. Luke s Garden Ministry Opportunities St. Luke s Wading Pool Garden project and Edible Landscape projects need help. You do not need to be a gardener to be able to help with the many tasks. These are some of the tasks for which we seek help: Plant seeds and tend plants at the Dubuque Rescue Mission greenhouse. Times will be determined according to need. Be a Garden Guide for a new wading pool gardener or at a Residential Group home. Help plant and tend the St. Luke s parking lot edible landscape and other areas, as needed and harvest from our edible landscapes. Sign up sheets are in the South hallway. If you have any suggestions, questions or donations for our garden ministries, please call or email: Jennifer Crow: 563-564-2176 jjcrow24@aol.com Mary Purdy: 563-590-5313 mary_purdy@hotmail.com Church World Service Tools of Hope The Social Justice team of St Luke's is coordinating with CWS (Church World Service) on June 17th, when we will honor our fathers by participating in Tools Sunday. We're privileged to have these opportunities for Christian service, and ask for your participation by donating towards the tools CWS distributes. "You are Jesus through your actions, not just through your words...be the hands and feet of Christ." You may use the envelopes provided in the bulletin, and place them in the offering plates, or use envelopes provided in South Hallway and turn them in to the church office by Monday 11 June to be included on the Tools Donation list that will be in the Father's Day bulletin. If you are donating in honor of someone, please write "in honor of " on the envelope. Tools can be paid for by cash or check. Checks can be made out to St. Luke's UMC with "CWS Tool Sunday" on the memo line (if you want it to count towards your St. Luke's pledge) or to Church World Service with "Tool Sunday" on the memo line. If you want a card to give to the person you are donating in honor of, they are available on the table in the back of the church. Thanks, sisters and brothers in Christ.
