No-one can have failed to see on the news of the desperate plight of millions of refugees around the world. St. Albans Diocese is working to aid various refugee projects and in October the Revd. Tony Rindl, Vicar of St. Mary's, Watford, is taking donations out to the refugee camps at Calais. We will be collecting items for him to take out to France. They have requested clothing for men (not women or children) - including winter clothing such as scarves, hats and gloves but also jackets and shoes, jeans, tops etc. If you can provide any of these items you can either bring them to church and we will take them over to St. Mary's or you can take them to St. Mary's yourself. Please think how you can help. They will also be taking out food which has a long shelf life such as tinned and dried foods and this year our Harvest Appeal will be food for the refugees in Calais. Worship and Fellowship at Pinewood Lodge Tuesday 6 th September at 11.00am Come and join the residents of Pinewood Lodge residential home for worship followed by a time for fellowship over cups of tea or coffee and cake or biscuits! Would you be interested in supporting this and in getting to know some of the older people in our community? Please speak to Ricky if you are interested in getting involved.

Extra Notices (1) Confirmation meeting this Sunday!!! After the service this Sunday I would like to meet up with all those who would like to be confirmed this year. Can you let me know if you are unable to be there on Sunday but want to join the classes. The classes will probably start on Sunday 11th September after church. On Thursday 15th September we welcome a group of Deacons from our link church in Norrköping. They arrive on Thursday morning and leave Sunday evening. While they are with us we want them to meet as many of us as possible those who went to Sweden last October will be pleased to meet up with old friends! As yet we have no plans for their visit so I would like to get a small group together to think of some ideas for their time with us. Much of their time will be with ASCEND but it would be good if we have some treats in store. One idea is that we share a roast lunch with them at church on Sunday Bob and Jean have offered to cook the meal but we need to know how many to cook for! A list will be going out this Sunday and we will need to know numbers by Sunday 11th September. Please, please sign the list if you would like to join our traditional English roast dinner! Can any of you host them on Thursday evening with a meal - perhaps one or two with different people. It would be good for them to experience an English home - we did this in Sweden and it was a great time! On Sunday 25th September James Muriithi and Anne will be getting married - the wedding will take place in the normal Sunday morning service. It is lovely to marry two members of our congregation in our Holy Communion service. The marriage will take place and then they will receive Holy Communion together along with all of us. Please make a note of this date in your diary and be there to pray for them as they begin their married life. The service will, however, start at 10.30am to allow a little extra time to be ready. Everyone is invited to the celebratory lunch! DON'T FORGET... Sunday 2nd October is Harvest Thanksgiving and this year we will be collecting food to be taken to the refugee camp in Calais. We only need tins, rice and pasta (please check that they have long use by dates)-. We are also collecting warm clothing for men - jeans, jackets, gloves, scarves, jumpers, shirts and underwear... Tony Rindl, the Vicar of St. Mary's, Watford, will be taking the food and clothes to Calais at the end of October.
