Some have asked for a later "after-work" time for a study, so Pastor Greg is offering this one. The same scriptures will be covered in both classes. FINAL YARD SALE MEETING FOR MAY The final organizational meeting for New Hope 2018 Yard Sale is: MONDAY, MAY 21st @ 6:30. We will plan to meet in Fellowship Hall promptly @ 6:30. We strive to limit our meetings to one hour only. Whether or not you have attended a prior meeting, ALL ARE WELCOME, and we would love to have you join us! On Friday, June 1st, we will be setting up the basic table layout in the gym in preparation for the actual sale. A time for meeting to do this will be forthcoming from Doug, Harry and/or Jerry. This is not a gender-specific job, but male assistance would be greatly appreciated! The church is being lit this week by Lila Denslow LIGHT THE CHURCH The Finance Committee invites you to take in an opportunity to help New Hope in a unique way. It s referred to as Light the Church for a Week. The cost of lighting New Hope is approximately $85 per week. When you choose to Light the Church for a Week, you would pay that amount and also honor a love one s memory, celebrate an important date birthday, anniversary etc. which would be shared in the church bulletin. To participate, please indicate on your giving envelope or check that it is for Light the Church for a Week. Let Your Light Shine Matthew 5:16 It s a Day Trip! Many of us are missing the smiling face of our dear friend, Marian, who moved up to Petoskey to be closer to her family. We plan to drive up to Petoskey on May 30th for a picnic with this dear lady (rain date is May 31). If you are interested in going, please contact Carol VanderMeer at 231-972-0443. New Directory Pages Available! The Church Directory address pages have been updated and are available for pickup at the Information Center. As address changes occur, they will be on the Prayer Page in the bulletin, if possible, until the Directory is updated again. CONGRATULATIONS 2018 GRADUATES! On Sunday, May 20, we'd like to have you tell about your educational achievement and future plans during our 9:45 am worship experience. Please call the church office if you'd like to recognized (231-972-2838.)

Can you spare a few hours a week??? The current Kingdom Kids program will be over at the end of April, and we need to start planning by June for next fall. In order for Kingdom Kids to continue, we need at least four teachers and four helpers each Wednesday afternoon (normally 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.). At this moment we have two teachers, AnnMarie Buchner and Linda Sbraccia, and three helpers, Nancy Santer, Bev Rothenberger and Gerry Herrmann, signed up. We still need at least two more teachers and two more helpers. Prayerfully consider what God is asking you to do. If you want to help but this sounds like too much of a commitment, please talk to us. Even one day a month can make a difference. We are flexible! We would love to talk to you if you have questions, and if you think this may be something you would like to do. Thank you, AnnMarie Buchner - 989-621-7681 Bev Rothenberger - 317-413-7491 IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you need to use the stove/oven in the kitchen, you must contact Roy Snyder (or Gen Abrams in the church office, to contact Roy) prior to needing it! from your pastor s point of view 5-20-18 cell/text: 989-621-7782 office: 231-972-2838 email: pastorgreg.ncd @gmail.com GOD S BODACIOUS GRACE, FAULTLESS TRUTH, AND TREMENDOUS LOVE (FROM PASTOR GREG) All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort - we get a full measure of that, too. - 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 The Message (MSG) Living in the power of the Holy Spirits means that we have the ability to be comforted more than anyone. We re comforted because God won t leave us stranded. Even when we don t feel him near spiritually we know that God is there. We re comforted by the direction the Spirit gives us. When we face ambiguity in our decisions, we can be comforted by his helpful, hands-on, perceptive leadership when we listen to him. We re comforted because we don't have to share our faith story alone. God s grace is moving before we get there, so that the Spirit will give us the utterances we need to share our God-story. We are comforted in full measure, because the Spirit continues stirs up people's hearts. We don t have to judge, because the Holy Spirit continues to help each one to be more like Christ each day. Filled: Comforting and Sustaining John 14:25-27; Acts 2:1-4, 14-24, 9:31 (Living in the Power of the Spirit Series) All scripture notations NIV unless noted. Intro Living in the power of the Spirit means: - conviction, repentance, and forgiveness. - power to be courageous in times of trial, still trusting that God can use anything to help us do his purpose. - finding comfort to sustain us. The Early Church Knew Holy Spirit Comfort "So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase." (Acts 9:31 ESV) Today s Church Knows the Spirit s Comfort Through. God s word purpose, promises, protection. God s unexplainable supernatural action. God s presence here right now and then. (John 14:25-27) Bottom Line & Personal Application It s time for some Pentecost! (Acts 2) Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-itsafers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. - Sir Cecil Beaton UPCOMING MESSAGES 9:45 a.m. & 11:15 a.m. Filled - Living in the Power of the Spirit series, May 6 June 3 May 27 Filled: Spiritual Gifts and Equipping I Corinthians 12:1-14 June 3 Filled: Living in the Spirit, Showing Fruit Galatians 5:22-32 (8:00 am, 9:45 am, 11:15 am Sunday morning service line-up starts) June 10-August 26 Divine Direction twelve-week series on discovering and following God s direction Pastor Greg (or our speaker) is handy after the service if you d like to say hi, ask questions, check-in, or just share comments. They are normally at the front of the worship space so that a conversation is easier. Stop and say hi.
