April 16, 2017 WELCOME ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Easter Sunday Greetings, I hope you are well and I pray that you are happy! Alleluia, He is Risen! Oh, the joy and beauty of Easter. Good Friday was scary and we thought it was all over. But thanks be to God, that is not the case. Thanks be to God for the Resurrection. With the Resurrection of Jesus comes love, life and especially hope for all of us, knowing that death is the door to eternity. Let us now leave the desert and walk boldly, proclaiming a new way of living. The desert has changed us all. We are no longer merely members of a church but disciples of Jesus Christ. Over the next weeks and months, I will be talking about the importance of discipleship, of living the Gospel message in a deeper and more sincere way. Our existence and how we should live must always be in relationship to the risen Lord. Our Alleluia is a proclamation that I believe in one God. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ true God and true man who suffered and died and rose on the third day. I believe in the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. Shout it out ALLELUIA! Our Alleluia is a proclamation that I will live my life as a follower of Jesus. I will not be afraid to live my life in opposition to the flavor of the day and popular opinion. I will not be afraid to stand up against the devil. Shout it out ALLELUIA! Our Alleluia is a proclamation that I will respect the dignity of every person and embrace those in need. I will feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty and lift up the lowly. Shout it out ALLELUIA! Our Alleluia is a proclamation that I will always seek forgiveness in my life and be open to God s work in my life. I will be strong and forgive others and not hang on to any bitterness. Shout it out. ALLELUIA! Our Alleluia is a proclamation that I will celebrate life to the fullest. I will treasure the beauty of all of creation. I will laugh, love and live. Shout it out ALLELUIA! Alleluia is more than just a word we sing on Easter. It is believing in Jesus, the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE! Come out of the desert; embrace Jesus who came out of the tomb. Come out and live! Alleluia! Have a great Easter! Your friend Fr. Divine Mercy Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated in our church and throughout the world on the first Sunday after Easter. We will have a special service at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 23, 2017. In preparation for this feast, a novena, consisting of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, should be said beginning on Good Friday. This novena can be said as presented in St. Faustina's diary in which an intention for each of the nine days is given. Our Lord promised every possible grace to those who celebrate the feast as Jesus wished. Instructions for the novena: https:// www.ewtn.com/devotionals/mercy/ novena.htm Instructions for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy: http://www.thedivinemercy.org/message/devo tions/chaplet.php Jesus, I trust in You Alpha begins at St. Anthony Catholic Community April 27 th at 6:30 PM Did you know most people who attend Alpha are invited by a friend? Take time this week to think about a friend who you would like to spend time with sharing a meal and heart felt discussion about God and life. Then take the next step and invite them to attend Alpha with you! You can register on line by going to http://satigard.org/formation/seniors-adults/alpha/. This will ensure that we have enough good food for everyone at dinner. Still not sure..call Gerlinde at 503-639-4179 ext. 122 Love and kindness are the best gifts we can give each other. Our love and kindness may come at just the right time, when it is needed most in someone s life. Many times our loving heart and gentle touch goes unnoticed by others, but God notices and considers them acts of worship. When we close our eyes and walk past someone needing help, we need to ask ourselves, If I don t help them, who will? We may think of letting the next guy be the one. Look around, there is no next guy, just you. A popular song we sing during our Church service asks this question of us: Whom shall I send? Our response should be, Here I am, Lord, I will go, Lord, I will hold your people in my heart. Don Lane 5

Are you going to college? Is your son or daughter going to college? Get connected. Did you know that 80% of students stop practicing their faith at some point during college? Together we can change this. Help us connect students to their campus ministers to ensure that they keep the faith while in college. Please email Fr. John Henderson, jhenderson@satigard.org the name(s) of someone you know in college or going to college. Let us keep the faith alive. Please give the full name of the student, his/her email and or cell, and the name of the college and city. Archbishop Sample endorses this program. When students participate in their faith during college they are much more likely to continue connecting as adults. We need to give our college students support and opportunity to meet new friends. ADULT FAITH FORMATION Participants receive both spiritual and doctrinal preparation in an effort to experience and strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ. The RCIA process invites participants to grow in their understanding of the Catholic Church, its teachings and way of life. It is formation that is focused on Jesus Christ and coming to know him more deeply. The process is marked by prayer, study, and fellowship and the celebration of Rites at Mass. Typically, those who participate in RCIA, and who choose to become Catholic, celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) during Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. After Easter the newly initiated continue to meet for several more weeks to deepen their Christian experience through spiritual and communal growth. The RCIA process is comprised of four phases with each phase focused on coming to know the Lord more deeply. The person seeking to join the Church is introduced to beliefs, life, liturgy and ministry in the Catholic community. Period of Inquiry (Evangelization and Pre- Catechumenate) - Period of Cathechumenate - Participants are given guidance and formation aimed at assisting them in living the Christian life more fully. Period of Purification and Enlightenment - Coincident with the season of Lent, participants join the St. Ann faith community in interior reflection and examination of conscience in preparation for the celebration of the sacraments at Easter.. Period of Mystagogy - Participants become more fully integrated into the faith community and deepen their Christian experience through further spiritual and communal growth.
