WE IN PRAYER PRAISE NEWS & THE BIBLE WELCOME TO ST ANDREW S ROSEVILLE 18TH JUNE 2017 ST ANDREW S IN NEWS

All that s going on around St Andrew s FROM THE THE EXECUTIVE PASTOR SANTINO DIMARCO Executive Pastor Dear St Andrew s, As I m sure you know, Mary Ellen and Jackson Rogers (from our 10am congregation) are faced with the most heart-wrenching situation as they seek the best way of caring for their 5-year-old daughter Amity. Amity was diagnosed 11 months ago with a brain tumour for which there are currently no definitive treatment options. Soon after diagnosis, Amity underwent radiation therapy which had a positive impact on the tumour. The radiation therapy also had a positive impact on the symptoms that had first alerted Jackson and Mary Ellen to Amity s illness. However, the radiation treatment for the type of tumour Amity has (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG ) was never expected to fully heal Amity. Sadly, Amity s most recent scans have shown that the tumour is growing. Amity has also more recently shown the recurrence of symptoms that confirm this. It is very difficult for Mary Ellen and Jackson to discern what the next step should be in seeking the best outcome for Amity. Without a miracle and/or without further treatment, the prognosis for Amity is bleak, and very short. Jackson and Mary Ellen have thoroughly investigated all of the latest treatment options and have determined that Intra-arterial Therapy (IA) is the next step for their care of Amity. Intraarterial Therapy, while experimental, is showing signs of promise for some patients. The treatment itself, when compared to other treatment options, is considered to be a little easier for a young child to cope with. On the downside, the IA treatment is only available in Monterrey, Mexico. This may seem surprising but the investigations they have made suggest that this particular region of Mexico, as it is close to the border with the United States, is very Americanised. Monterrey itself is a very advanced city and the treatment will be administered in a first-class private hospital. It is impossible to put ourselves in the position that Mary Ellen and Jackson find themselves. Their grief, anxiety and emotional pain is enormous and there is little practical help we can give them to lessen their deep anguish. What we can do though is support them in their decision to do what they believe is best for Amity. How can we support them? I ll state the obvious first and that is to pray, pray and pray to our Father in Heaven; pray for Amity to be restored to full health. Pray also that the treatment will be well received by Amity and will make a positive difference. Pray for strength and courage, not

All that s going on around St Andrew s FROM THE THE EXECUTIVE PASTOR only for Amity, but for Jackson, Mary Ellen, and Amity s siblings Atticus, Rufus and baby Georgia. Secondly, the treatment regime they are seeking for Amity is expensive. For an approximate 3- month treatment regime, together with relocation costs and the like, the figure comes to around AUD$260,000. Put simply, this is an amount that Jackson and Mary Ellen do not have access to. As their church family, I am appealing to all at St Andrew s to consider financially assisting the Rogers family. Our Necessitous Circumstances fund can be used to receive funds to support them, with the advantage that any support you give will be eligible for a tax deduction. The support for the Rogers is also being promoted beyond the St Andrew s community (e.g. Amity s school community) and those from outside St Andrew s can also use our Necessitous Circumstances fund to provide support. A website has been setup by a friend of the Rogers that allows us to gain a more detailed understanding of Amity s situation as well as a link within the site which takes you to the donation page. The website address is www.inamityscorner.com. Alternatively, if you would like to go straight to the donation site, the address is www.tinyurl.com/supportforrogers. Please prayerfully consider if you can support Amity, Jackson and Mary Ellen in this time of deep need, and no matter whether you can give financial support, please also pray, pray, pray. Blessings, Santino ************************************************************* Postscript The decision to have Amity undergo this treatment, and the need to travel to Mexico for it, is an extremely difficult decision for Mary Ellen and Jackson to make. At the time of publishing this News, their plan is to travel to Mexico this week and then finalise the decision whether to proceed with treatment once they are there. Please uphold them in prayer; that they will know God s guidance and have a deep sense of peace with their decision. Should they decide to not proceed with the treatment, their need for financial support will be significantly less than stated above. However they will still be in need of a reduced amount of financial support. We will update the Parish on their decision as soon as we know. Due to this uncertainty, you may wish to provide an initial level of support now, and later provide further support if it is confirmed that they are proceeding with the treatment.

All that s going on around St Andrew s COMMUNITY WATCH NOW IS THE TIME With the end of the financial year fast approaching, now is the time to make your contribution to the St Andrew s 2020Vision Project. Words you ll need for today s contemporary services CONTEMPORARY SERVICE PRAYERS CONFESSION Most merciful God, we humbly admit that we need your help. We confess that we have wandered from your way: we have done wrong, and we have failed to do what is right. You alone can save us. Have mercy on us: wipe out our sins and teach us to forgive others. Bring forth in us the fruit of the Spirit that we may live as disciples of Christ. This we ask in the name of Jesus our Saviour. Amen. THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory, are yours now and for ever. Amen.
