Bring low the high tree, lift high the lowly tree, wither up the green tree, and make the withered tree bloom. Ezekiel 17, part of verse 24 I saw a man standing on the corner holding a sign as I drove into a gas station. The sign stated that he was a veteran and that he needed help. I looked directly the man. He was well dressed. He was of a different race than I. He looked directly at me. I felt compassion. My brain started an assessment process. Is he really in need? How could I help? What is his real need? Where did he come from? Why am I so intent on helping him? What would he do with money if I gave him money? Doesn t the VA center provide for him? Am I bad for questioning his motives? What are my motives? Am I naı ve? Gullible? Will I be taken advantage of? How can I not help someone so courageous as to hold a sign and publically ask for help? After illing my gas tank I went into the gas station to pay. I made the decision to buy some food for the man. I searched the aisles to ind something healthier than candy bars and chips. I chose peanuts. I stopped my car and opened the window meeting the man face to face. I handed the peanuts to the man and told him that I would keep him in my heart. As he thanked me I noticed that he had no teeth. I couldn t speak. I shut my window and drove off. I had just given peanuts to a man with no teeth. If he was hungry I just made matters worse. I felt lousy. How often do we give without understanding the need, ours and theirs? Seeking to understand our needs and seeking to understand the needs of others is one way to participate in God s plan to balance the imbalances. Building Pass Keys Our Finance Council and Building and Grounds Committee have implemented an Annual Pass Key Recall. What does this mean? Each year the Parish will be de-activating Pass Keys on a set date. These are the security pass keys to enter the parish building after office hours. The 2018 De-Activation Date is: Friday, June 29th Emergency Response Team, Employee s, Deacon, Trustee s, Council Chairpersons, and Building & Grounds Chair are exempt from the annual Pass Key Recall. Current Pass Key holders may call Kathy Bourget at (920) 468-5718 ext.2. to determine if you are eligible for a Pass Key. Please call by Friday, June 22nd, 2018 Religious Education Enrollment Forms are due in to the Parish Of ice by Sunday, July 15, 2018 E B S 4 J H W W J 8 B All submissions are due in the parish of ice by Wednesday, June 27th at 9:00am Thank you P S M Prayer Shawls are given to those who are dealing with dif iculties in their lives such as illness, the death of a loved one, or divorce. Sometimes shawls are also given to those experiencing change in their lives such as newly married couples or new parents. As the shawls are being created, prayers are said for the person who will receive it. The parish has patterns & information available. Ministers meet on the third Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference room at Prince of Peace. The next meeting will be on June 21 from 9-11 a.m. For more information contact Suzanne Koss at (920)366-3323 or skoss123@gmail.com Green Bay, WI Page 7
