AMERICAN LEGION ALBERT E SCHWAB POST 555 The Marauder May 2015 FOR GOD AND COUNTRY WE ASSOCIATE OUR- SELVES TOGETHER FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; To maintain law and order; To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; To make right the master of might; To promote peace and goodwill on earth; To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness. This Issue: Commander s Message 1 Chaplains Pulpit 2 1st Vice Report 2 Auxiliary 3 Commander s Message of the Month In this, my final message as Commander of Albert E. Schwab Post 555, I wish to reflect on and acknowledge the great steps forward we have done for our Post together. The new kitchen, windows throughout the building, Monday Night Big Band, Taco Thursday are but a few of the things our Legion family have done. I first stepped into Post 555 back in November of 1982. I was a brand new Patrol Deputy assigned to train on Day Shift in Midway City. We stopped in one day so I could see what the place looked like in case we got future calls there. I honestly can t recall every detail, but I do know that I never expected to be a member, let alone the Post Commander some 30 odd years later. I transferred into Post 555 from Post 862 several years ago when I realized all my time was spent in this Post. I was a member of the Riders, and thought I might have something to offer. When I transferred, I became a PUFL of this Post and will remain so. This Post and its members mean the world to me. I appreciate the fact that you all gave me your trust and allowed me the honor to be the Commander for the past year. I hope I met your expectations, and I hope you are happy with what has been done. I leave the Post in the capable hands of Jenny Hayden, who will be installed as your new Commander at the June meeting. I look forward to the future and seeing our Post grow even better. Page 2 The Chaplain s Pulpit As we approach June we have sad news. We lost another member to the Post Everlasting. His name is John Robert Harris, United States Navy, and a PUFL member of our Post. He passed away Friday the 15th of May. I'm sorry to say that I haven't got any information about John, but I know he will be definitely missed by his love ones and friends. Remember to please let me know when one of your loved one passes on to the Post Everlasting so we can Honor that Sister or Brother. God Bless We had a very emotional Salute to our Fallen Veterans at the 43rd Annual Memorial Day Service at the Westminster Memorial Park & Mortuary across from our American Legion Post 555. Just remember take time in your Heart to Honor our Men and Women who gave the full and final Measure of their Devotion for our Freedom. GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM Amen GOD Bless America and the American Legion Family (Definitely our Great Troops) For God and Country Stay Healthy Andy Timko (E.L.P.) Post 555 Chaplain (Amen) First Vice Commander s Report This is an exciting time for the post as most of the remodeling is finished and been broken in. The kitchen is like being in a home and the men's bathroom well I can't give you any details on it. You will have to check with the men that have used the bathroom. I have been able to meet several new people that have been here from other states stopping by to have a drink. I always hope they will transfer their membership but that doesn't always work. They do see our sign out front and of course the yellow building keeps them from getting lost. Have your friends come in with you or the family while they are visiting. All you have to do is sign them in as your guest. The Change of Command will be coming up next month and if you haven't heard the rumors there will be a Women Commander at the helm. I hope this will be a fun and eventful time for all of us. I promise that I will listen to your suggestions and bring them in front of our E-Board. ( I keep thinking that we need some flowers and pink color in the bar.) I hope you will come in for our ceremony on the 8th of June at 7:00 a.m. As you know I keep pushing for all of us to sign up new members. This is a really nice small post that is comfortable and friendly. Our Volunteers work to go way beyond the Call of Duty. It is always easy to complain but my thought is if you have a solution you can be the Chairman of that solution. Please help us when you can and tell the volunteers thank you. Also, on the 3rd Friday of each month we are serving a full dinner for $8.00. The next dinner will be June 19, 2015. There has been a low attendance for our dinners. Do you want me to continue having a dinner once a month? Taco night is Thursday so that may be the conflict. Let me hear from you. Stay well and Stay safe. Jenny Hayden, 1st Vice Commander "What if it were impossible to fail?"

Page 3 American Legion Auxiliary Unit 555 Hello Everyone, I want to thank everyone for their support of the Auxiliary this past year. As we move forward we want to have more involvement in our Post and make it the best we can, but need your help and participation. We really need to increase our membership and ask you to help by encouraging your wife, daughters, granddaughters, or relatives/friends who have military connections to join us. We have ideas/plans for upcoming activities, but are always in need of new ones. AUXILIARY NEWS Our next Auxiliary Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 2, at 7:00 p.m. On Monday, June 8, the Auxiliary will join the Post meeting at 7:00 p.m. to swear in our elected officers. President: Kay Hamby 1 st Vice: Rita Smith 2 nd Vice: Linda Earnest Treasurer: Sue Nott Secretary: Lil Perez Chaplain: Eveline Sifuentes Sgt. at Arms: Bonnie Seibert Historian: Ana Eustace On Tuesday, June 9, the Auxiliary will be visiting the Spinal Cord Unit at the V.A. Hospital in Long Beach. We will be providing them lotion, socks, flavored water, & snacks. If you would like to join us, please meet at 3:30 p.m. at the Post to carpool. This is a truly rewarding and wonderful opportunity to visit with our veterans and thank them for their service. FOURTH OF JULY There will be a Post potluck to celebrate Independence Day from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Always a fun time with fellow members and their families and great food too! This will enable people to attend the parade in Huntington Beach in the morning if they wish and still join in firework festivities in the evening. TACO THURSDAYS from 5:00 7:00 p.m. It s wonderful to see more and more members and their family and friends participating in Taco Thursdays. Great Food!! Great Price!! Lots of Fun!! DUE TO THE CONVENTION IN ONTARIO, TACOS WILL BE CAN- CELLED FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 25 ONLY! AUXILIARY BIRTHDAYS-JUNE Logan Daly Ellen Furst (Not listed? Please contact me so I may update our master list) FOR GOD AND COUNTRY Kay Hamby President, Unit 555

Page 4 American Legion Riders Chapter 555 The Marauder Riders, The coming year for the American Legion Riders Department of California and all the Chapters will be a challenging one. The DOC has put out a new Uniform Manual and Revised the ALR By-laws. The Department Judge Advocate has advised all Chapter Presidents that they will be accountable for the actions and uniforms of their Riders. The pressure is not only on the Presidents but the Chapters with possible Charter Suspension. More information will be available at the next meeting. Next month on June 20 th we are hosting the ALR Area 5 Presidents meeting at Post 555. The meeting will be two hours long from 1000 to 1200hrs. The DOC President James Adames, will be here. After the meeting we will be hosting along with Post 555 food, a raffle, music, dancing (The Z Bops) band will be performing. Also a big thank you to Marlene, for getting the band. The 25 th of May is Memorial Day many of you will be making plans to be with your family and friends. Every year ALR Chapter 555 and Post 555 present a wreath at Westminster Memorial Park Cemetery. We as a Chapter have done this every year along with the post since I belonged to the Chapter in 2007. Please join us if you can this year and there is always food and drinks at the Post after the ceremony. May all of you have a Safe and Happy Memorial Day. Robert M.
