The GALILEAN God s Word I waited patiently for the Lord, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help. He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the Lord. How happy is anyone who has put his trust in the Lord and has not turned to the proud or to those who run after lies! Psalm 40:1-4 (CSB) 1 The Galilean March 2018 Consumed I can t seem to get away from this. Right now I am praying extremely hard for myself to not say or do something incredibly stupid. Will I be justified (in my own mind) in doing so? Yes. But, it would do terrible harm to my testimony. Bad behavior is bad behavior; justified or not. Some of you know I am praying for deliverance from my current position. I am (put your thumb and forefinger very close together) this close to quitting. Will I? Probably not. Honestly, there s a part of me that s hoping to be fired (long story). Right now I am consumed with that negative emotion. You know the one that Christians are not supposed to possess. It s the opposite of love. Hence, the reason I m at the top of my own prayer list, Lord, get me outta here! The subject of our next Sunday School lesson is Abraham and his obedience to God s command to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. The story opening the lesson centers on a woman who sacrificed her career to help care for her ailing mother. She endures a part-time situation, waiting for something she desires. At the end, she is offered the desire of her heart. As I write, I am sitting in my work vehicle wondering just how much of this lesson do I apply to me. Is there a sacrifice that I missed; or messed up? Is this just a part of my normal faith walk? Do I continue to wait on the Lord as He builds whatever it is in me He is building? (OK. I know the answer to that one.) I haven t a clue what this season of hate and loathing is about. I continue to (try to) pray for the wolves the enemy has sent to attack my testament of who I say I am, and how I am supposed to live and love. So, during this season I solicit your prayers that I may be attentive to what the Lord is teaching me and where His is guiding me. Let s end on a happy note, the Lord answered my cry for a new church copier. Thank you, Lord! Also, Thank you to all of you for enduring those fuzzy blurred editions. Again, Thank you! In Jesus Name LL B

MUSINGS FROM A SENIOR CITIZEN Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Psalm 40:4 (NIV) In life, we are called upon to wait patiently. The visit to the doctor s office when the doctor is running behind schedule. The red light that seems to last forever, but probably does not exceed a few minutes at most. Waiting for the tax refund. Waiting for a call from a suitor. Seeking guidance from God and feeling that the answers will never come. We wonder why the response is not instantaneous. Patience is in short supply in today s society. We want everything to be done immediately. Rather than stressing, try to slow down. Look for biblical examples of patience. Abraham and Sarah are examples of saints who waited so long for their blessing that they had nearly given up. (God s timing is not our timing.) Because of their impatience, they made decisions that had serious consequences for everyone involved. They took matters into their own hands. These consequences touched generations to come. The consequence of their impatience and doubt was Ishmael, a boy who would later become the patriarch of one of the twelve tribes whom God said would live in hostility toward every man (Genesis 16:12). Psalm 83 indicates that by the time of David the Ishmaelites were largely hostile toward God and the people of Israel. And so it is to this day. I think many of us have acted impatiently tour detriment. Someone hurts us and we strike out in anger. We say and do things that make the situation worse. Impulsive actions can work to make us act irrationally and angrily. We may engage in behaviors and actions that would not be typical for us. Practicing patience alleviates the desire to act quickly without regard for the outcome. Wait. Think it over. Carefully evaluate the situation. And pray. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus; wait for the LORD (Psalm 40:1). But what does it look like to wait patiently for the LORD? David provides the answer to that question throughout Psalm 40: Psalm 40:3 - Sing praises to God! Psalm 40:4 - Trust Him! Reject the proud (including the pride within)! Cling to the truth! Psalm 40:5 - Identify personally with the Lord MY God! Remember His many wondrous works! Psalm 40:7 - Go to Him! Psalm 40:8 - Delight in doing His will! Psalm 40:9 - Proclaim God s good news, His gospel, without restraint! Psalm 40:10 - Declare His faithfulness, His salvation, His lovingkindness, His truth! Psalm 40:12 - Acknowledge your sins, and let your failing heart yield to confession and forgiveness. Pray without ceasing and wait to feel the presence of God. Listen for His voice. The more we pray and meditate on the Word of God, the better able we are to discern His voice and the purpose He has for our lives. Practice patience. You will be better for it. Not by might. Nor by power. But by (the Holy) Spirit (of God). Trusting and Believing- M.C.B.S. 3 The Galilean

Actually, there are 31; one is the variant of one Old Testament prophet's name, a variant that's used in the text of the King James Version (not as the title of a book, but in the text itself). There are 30 books of the Bible in this paragraph. Can you find them? This is a most remarkable puzzle. It was found by a gentleman in an airplane seat pocket, on a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, keeping him occupied for hours. He enjoyed it so much, he passed it on to some friends. One friend from Illinois worked on this while fishing from his john boat. Another friend studied it while playing his banjo. Elaine Taylor, a columnist friend, was so intrigued by it she mentioned it in her weekly newspaper column. Another friend judges the job of solving this puzzle so involving, she brews a cup of tea to help her nerves. There will be some names that are really easy to spot. That's a fact. Some people, however, will soon find themselves in a jam, especially since the book names are not necessarily capitalized. Truthfully, from answers we get, we are forced to admit it usually takes a minister or a scholar to see some of them at the worst. Research has shown that something in our genes is responsible for the difficulty we have in seeing the books in this paragraph. During a recent fund raising event, which featured this puzzle, the Alpha Delta Phi lemonade booth set a new record. The local paper, The Chronicle, surveyed over 200 patrons who reported that this puzzle was one of the most difficult they had ever seen. As Daniel Humana humbly puts it, "The books are all right here in plain view hidden from sight." Those able to find all of them will hear great lamentations from those who have to be shown. One revelation that may help is that books like Timothy and Samuel may occur without their numbers. Also, keep in mind, that punctuation and spaces in the middle are normal. A chipper attitude will help you compete really well against those who claim to know the answers. Remember, there is no need for a mad exodus; there really are 30 books of the Bible lurking somewhere in this paragraph waiting to be found. God Bless. 5 The Galilean
