Stephen Ministers are trained lay care-givers who provide emotional and spiritual care to persons who are experiencing difficulties in their lives hospitalization, loss of a loved one, loss of job, or any other crisis situation. This is care in addition to the care the pastor gives. If you are interested in having a Stephen Minister, fill out one of the slips in the pew rack and put it in the offering plate or hand it to the minister or one of the Stephen Leaders or Tom Lee. END OF YEAR CONTRIBUTIONS: Federal law requires that all contributions to LUMC must be either in our hands by December 31st or, if mailed, post-marked on or before December 31st in order to qualify the giver for a tax deduction in 2015. Gifts received which don t meet these requirements will be gratefully accepted and credited to 2016. Make Sure the Church Not the IRS Benefits From Your Stock Market Gains Did you know you can give to the church and avoid capital gains taxes at the same time? You can do this by donating stock or mutual fund shares. Let's say you bought 100 shares of XYZ of stock in 2001 for $1,000 and it s now worth $3,000. You decide to donate these shares to the church. You receive tax credit for a donation of $3,000 in computing your annual taxes. And your $3,000 donation to the church only cost you $1,000. By giving stock shares directly to the church you avoid paying taxes on capital gains and the church, being tax exempt, does not pay taxes on the donation. The transaction is quite simple and can be handled by your broker. But you need to act before December 31, and it is important that you let the church office know in advance that your shares are being donated. Contact John Wells at (336) 945-3713 or john@securityunderwriters.com for more details. WANT TO HELP SOME FRIENDS? A site has been established for folks wishing to sign up to provide a meal for The Hayes family (Mike, June, Jackson, Emma, and Ava) while they deal with recent health concerns. You can sign up at takethemameal.com using the last name Hayes and the password Jackson. If you aren t comfortable using or don t have access to a computer, you can contact Beth Houff (945-9886) and I will be glad to fill in a date for you to provide a meal. Thank you in advance for being the hands and feet of Jesus. Matthew 25:35-40 BLUEGRASS AND BBQ! Come celebrate Epiphany with Bluegrass & BBQ! The Williams Brothers will be playing at Pig-n-Out on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 5:30-7:30 pm. Bring your family and friends!
