ST JOHN S CHURCH HILDENBOROUGH CHILDREN S CO-ORDINATOR Reporting to: Hours: Job purpose Main duties: Associate Vicar Revd Simon Braid Normally 35 hours over five days Co-ordinate and support our growing work amongst children aged 3-11 in local schools and through Sunday and midweek church based activities. Co-ordinate first Sunday monthly Kidz service Co-ordinate all age services during school holidays and on festivals Co-ordinate weekly assemblies with team working in three local primary schools Co-ordinate Sparklers (3-6) and Trailblazer (7-11) groups with their leaders and helpers Co-ordinate and lead one off events for children Explore and offer appropriate missional opportunities for children Support an environment in which children grow as Christian disciples Offer pastoral support and mentoring to children s leaders and helpers Attend weekly church staff meeting Lead termly children and youth leaders meeting Other duties Potentially either: Seconded on 1 day per week to work with Tonbridge Children s Workshop Work with Pathfinders (11-14)and / or New Generation (15-18) age groups 2
Work with midweek and Sunday groups for 0-3 Work with families through Who let the Dads Out and other opportunities Background In recent years St John s Hildenborough has been experiencing significant growth particularly amongst primary aged children and their families. This has been through a new monthly service, baptisms and through school assemblies in the two state primary schools Hildenborough C of E School and Stocks Green School, and Fosse Bank School which is private. The church is friendly and welcoming. Hildenborough is situated six miles from the M25 motorway, between Sevenoaks and Tonbridge, it has a population of approximately 5,500 and although on the outskirts of Tonbridge has an identity of its own, retaining a village atmosphere. It has comparatively small residential estates, the largest having been built in the early 1960s, but it also enjoys much open countryside. The majority of the congregation live in the community of Hildenborough or close by. St. John the Evangelist Church was consecrated in 1844 and is in the centre of the village where the few shops are situated. It is early Victorian and still retains that identity although during recent years there have been modernisation works to render it appropriate to worship today eg a modern sound system, hearing loop, screens and cameras for use in worship. The church has an evangelical tradition and is open to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit and His gifts to build up the church. Tim Saiet the Vicar co-leads the local New Wine network. Revd Tim Saiet has been Vicar since 2014 and has three children and a fourth on the way. Revd Simon Braid has been on the staff team since 2009 and is Associate Vicar. There is a good team of people, committed to the church s ministry amongst children. Conditions Salary 24,000 3
