Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. Minister Candace Simpson is a Brooklyn native, a sister, a writer, and an educator. She is also the site coordinator of the Concord Freedom School, a literacy-based social justice education program for children in Bedford-Stuyvesant. She recently graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York where she wrote her thesis on community controlled programming, Womanist ethics, and Freedom School. She weaves her passions for teaching, ministry, and community organizing for the ultimate aim of building more loving and sustainable spaces. Minister Simpson enjoys writing and has appeared as a regular contributor at the Black Women s Blogging Collective, For Harriet. Currently, Minister Simpson serves on a team of Faith and Justice Educators at the Seminar Program of the United Methodist Women. Minister Simpson also serves as a minister at the Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York. It is Candace's philosophy that Heaven is a Revolution that can happen right here on Earth." 3
