Sermon Outline Part 3 Philippians 1:20-26, For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor. Yet I do not know what I shall choose. For I am pressed together by the two: having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all, for your advancement and joy of faith, so that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. His purpose for living: 1. This is the fruit of my labor 2. More needful for you 3. For your advancement and joy of faith 4. Your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ Acts 4:34-37, There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement), sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet. Acts 9:1-2, Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. Acts 9:26-28, When he (Saul) came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.
Sermon Notes Outline Acts 11:19-23, Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. Acts 11:24, He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord. Acts 11:25-26, Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. Acts 13:1-5, In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper. Acts 15:37-40, Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord. 2 Timothy 4:11, [Paul writing to Timothy] Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. Focus Sermon Outline/Notes Missions Sermon Notes Tim and Tammy Aho--Church Planting Missionaries to Great Britain CMF International is people working throughout the world as Christ s change agents in the transformation of lives and communities. Our missionaries live among the people they serve, learn the language, and work within the culture to communicate the love of God. We place a high value on our missionaries working in teams, which have a shared strength as they determine the best strategies and use of personnel for their field. This proven approach gives us continuity, accountability, fellowship, and effectiveness. Tim & Tam Aho have twenty-one years of history with CMF, and almost nineteen in England. Their church-planting efforts have been focused on the West Midlands, in Shirley and Dickens Heath on the southeastern edge of Birmingham. With teammates Aaron and Diane, they launched Dickens Heath Village Church in 2002. In 2007 they turned over their leadership roles to local leaders, and shifted to planting a simple church network called thethirdplace. Their focus is on discipling people into followers of Jesus to maturity and multiplication. They serve on a national level with the Fellowship of Churches of Christ to help establish a church-planting movement in the UK.
