SCHOOL NEWS Did you know that nearly 95% of St. Joseph families receive some form of scholarship to support their student's education? This is made possible, in part, by our Guardian Angel Scholarship Fund. Earlier this month, the St. Joseph Parish community set a goal to raise $35,000 for the Guardian Angel Scholarship Fund by December 31. If each family gave only $35, together we could fund a full scholarship for one student! Be an Angel this year; consider making a special donation to St. Joseph Catholic School and help us support families that, like you, prioritize a quality, Catholic education. Together, anything is possible so please share this message. Here are a few easy ways to donate: Via checks payable to St. Joseph Catholic School (Guardian Angel Fund in the memo) Via a cash donation dropped off at the School/ Parish front office (Let our staff know it is for the Guardian Angel Fund) There are Angels among us that gift scholarships for our students. Be an Angel for someone this year! Catholic Schools 'Wcclt Catholic Schools Learn. Serve. Lead. Gatherings will be on the six Wednesdays of Lent following Ash Wednesday (March 13 to April 17) to study the Scriptural background and foundations for the Eucharist. These will be held in the St. Francis room of the Parish Office center from 7:00-8:30 PM. The book covers excerpts from the Old Testament beginning with Genesis and from the New Testament ending with Revelation. After privately reflecting on the daily readings, commentary, and questions, we will gather weekly for sharing as a group. Registration payments of $15 per person can be made on weekdays at the Parish Office (747-3100), ending February 1. Books and schedules will be available for pickup in the Parish Office during the week of Ash Wednesday (March 4 to 8). OUR LADY OF FATIMA PRAYER GROUP On Thursday, January 24, the Fatima prayer group will meet at 7:00 pm in the St. Francis room of the Parish Office center. We will pray the joyful mysteries of the holy rosary with 10 picture slides illustrating each decade. Following the rosary, we will listen to the second part of an interview last year with Ralph Martin of Renewal Ministries discussing "Fatima -A Message For Us Now". You may not see these fellow parishioners place an envelope in the basket every week, but their consistent giving does not go unnoticed in our Parish Office. Each month our parish receives a steady stream of income from those donors who have made the commitment to give to God first by having a designated contribution automatically transferred to our parish through our Online Giving Program. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cause of church unity is commended to Christians for prayer and action every year around this time. This week is not so much to focus on the many divisions within the Christian family, but on bonds of faith and mission. Even though Christians have always shown an inclination to fracture, spin off, and mutate into new expressions, recent history shows some new points of convergence and agreement. Catholics are more firmly rooted in the word of God, for example, and many Protestants are more likely to celebrate Communion than in years past. Some denominations are merging and pooling resources, and people from various traditions are collaborating on projects. The call of this week is to be mindful of the diversity of our traditions and customs while treasuring what we hold in common. The old advice to "lighten up" is good medicine, because sometimes our differences are delightful and amusing. If someone says, "Let us pray," a Catholic might close the eyes, bow the head and fold hands; a Protestant reach out and clasp hands with the person in the next chair; and someone belonging to an Orthodox tradition might stand up with eyes wide open. Each has taken a different path, but the goal is always the same. This is a week not for focusing on the well-worn paths of divergence, but for mutual delight in a common goal. -James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Start the new year out right by enriching your marriage. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are Jan 26-27 at Our Lady of Guadalupe monastery in Phoenix or Mar 16-17 in Tucson. -Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Please help us serve you better. I would respectfully ask that those that need to be up close to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, please come up to the front pews. If you must be in the back you must inform an usher so that someone will be able to serve you in the back of the church. God Bless You Rev. Robert A. Rodriguez SacramentsSacramentos Reconciliation/Horario de Reconciliaci6n Saturdays/Sabados: 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Baptisms - Baptismal arrangements must be made by the PARENTS of the child at the Parish Office. Parents and godparents must attend a baptismal preparation class before the baptism. Other requirements will be discussed at the initial interview.
