UPCOMING CCD CLASSES: Elementary CCD Tuesday, February 6th High School CCD- Tuesday, February 13th CCD - Religious Education Fr. Tom s Joke of the Week During a children s sermon, Reverend Larry asked the boys and girls what the word amen means. Little Chucky s hand shot up, I know, he chirped. It means, Tha-tha-tha-that s all folks! FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today we will be hearing from our Bishop about the Bishop s Services Appeal. I know this is a hard sell this year with the Capital Campaign but the Bishop asked us to go ahead and continue the BSA for the services it provides. Our Lenten mission will be guided by Fr. Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R. He is a Redemptorist like our last year s preacher. He is the Chaplain of the famous Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupre in Canada. He will be preaching at all of the Masses on February 17th & 18th and then the mission will take place Monday, February 19th - Thursday, February 22nd. A rosary or a part of the rosary will begin each weekday night at 5:40p.m. and the preaching will start at 6:00p.m. The theme of this year s mission is The True Face of the Father. Please see elsewhere in this bulletin for more information about Fr. Guy and also cut out the prayer for the success of the mission to pray each day. Thanks to all who supported our foundation banquet! It was a great success! Fr. Glodd even had a pencil sketching that went for $1,000.00. There will be a special Come, Lord Jesus Lenten program. Please see elsewhere in this bulletin for more information. I encourage everybody to try it! Tim Donovan has entered the Diaconate program for the Diocese of Lafayette. He is just at the very beginning stage of discernment so please keep him and Angie, his wife, in your prayers. Congratulations Tim! The interior renovation of the Church is substantially completed. There are a few things we are still working on. It looks like the total cost will be $1,031,302.95. It looks like we will only have to borrow $25,000 from the Diocese to pay for this, unless some unexpected blessings come in. I think that s pretty good for a major project like this and done on time. Thanks again to all of you who have contributed to this renovation in one way or another. And a big thanks to Beulah and Sharon Lee whose estate donation made all of this possible. Let us pray for the repose of their souls including Beulah s husband, Richard. Thanks again to Phillips Contractors, Seller s Group Architects, Myriam Stanford and all who worked on our Church. We do have yard signs available for the Centennial Celebration for the Diocese of Lafayette. They are $10.00 a piece. If we run out, we can get more. Just make your order with Michelle our secretary. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies

CENTENNIAL NEWS + Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish - On February 10, 1935, Immaculate Heart of Mary officially opened its doors as the second church parish in the city of Lafayette established to serve the Black Catholic community. The parish was created by Bishop Jeanmard as a ministry base for four newly ordained African American priests who were members of the Divine Word missionary order: Frs. Anthony Bourges, SVD; Maurice Rousseve, SVD; Francis Wade, SVD; and Vincent Smith, SVD. Their success at this parish proved to be a turning point in the history of Black Catholic Priests in the United States. + Centennial Indulgence- an indulgence granted by Pope Francis can be gained throughout this Centennial Year by all who visit the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and pray the Centennial Prayer (with the usual conditions for an indulgence.) Please see the Diocesan Webpage for more information (www.diolaf.org). COME, LORD JESUS! LENTEN JOURNEY Prayer + Scripture + Eucharist + Christian Community Journey with us during the holy season of Lent as we study and meditate upon the Sunday Gospels leading to the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Meet weekly with your community of faith for a deeper understanding of Jesus life and death and the victory he claimed for each of us! Please make plans to attend an Introduction to Come, Lord Jesus! on Wednesday, February 7th at 6:00pm in the Sacred Heart Church Meeting Room. Prepare for the Easter celebration with a spiritual journey that will renew your faith and transform your life! CENTENNIAL PRAYER FOR THE DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE O Lord God Almighty, by sending Your onlybegotten Son to establish the One True Church through the power of the Most Holy Spirit, You gave mankind a haven from the world. We humbly implore Your blessing upon the Church of the Diocese of Lafayette as we observe this Century of Love. Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and Saint John Vianney, our patrons, bestow perpetual growth to Your Family of Faith as we take refuge in Your Infinite Grace. We humbly beseech You to enlighten us to learn from our past and to look to the future so that we may persist in the work of spreading the true faith. Fill us with gratitude in this Year of Jubilee as we live secure in the certain hope that You will be with us forever. We ask this through Christ the Lord. Amen. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, pray for us! St. John Vianney, pray for us!

LENTEN MISSION AT SACRED HEART CHURCH Monday, February 19th - Thursday, February 22nd starting at 6:00p.m. Fr. Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R. Theme: The True Face of the Father Born in 1956 in Gatineau, in the province of Quebec, Fr. Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R., a French Canadian Redemptorist, is the third of a family of five children: one girl and four boys. He studied Fine Arts and Commercial Art at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and at 18 years of age, he became a graphic artist for a French newspaper where he worked for seven years. Since he was 14 years old, he had not put a foot in church, and led a disorderly life: drugs, alcohol and sex. Shortly after turning 24, his whole life suddenly changed, mainly because of his father s illness and his mother s prayers. He started reading his Bible after hearing an inside voice compelling him to read it. After 2 years of spiritual journey with the Lord, he finally answered God s call to become a priest. Ordained at the age of 32, he has since become a passionate preacher of the Good News, both in French and in English, around the entire North American continent. He has been the rector of the beautiful Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupre, near Quebec City, for 4 years. He was previously in charge of the French and English magazine of the Shrine (La Revue Sainte Anne and The Annals of Saint Anne), and is presently active in full time preaching since June 2015, and director of Pastoral Vocations for his community. + PRAYER FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE MISSION + The True Face of the Father Loving father, you sent your beloved Son, perfect reflection of your glory, and very stamp of your nature, to save us and to reveal yourself through his words and actions. Because your mercy is infinite, dear Father, we pray to you for the success of our parish mission. May the Holy Ghost that unites you so perfectly in the Holy Trinity, be given to us and help us understand and discern the calls and instructions that your begotten Son will give us during our parish mission. May He enlighten and guide all the faithful of our parish community to the fullness of your Love and Wisdom that dwells in the treasure of Christ s heart, Head of the Church. May He make us more attentive to the Word of God, to the necessity of daily and intimate prayer of the heart, and to fraternal charity, which is the only true sign of the presence of God dwelling in our hearts. Following the example of Christ and of our Blessed Mother Mary and her spouse Joseph, help us, Holy Spirit, to become the pure reflection of the true face of the Father! Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. (Ps 80, 3) AMEN!
