BABYLONIAN FLOOD STORY EPIC OF GILGAMESH Take the seed of all creatures I boarded the ship and closed the door. I sent out a dove... The dove went, then came back, no resong- place appeared for it, so it returned.. Then I sent out a raven..it was the waters receding, it ate, it flew about to and fro, it did not return. I made a libaoon on the peak of the mountain. Gen. BIBLE FLOOD STORY 6:19 And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring. aboard the ship Gen. 7:1 Come into the Ark Gen. 7:16 The Lord shut him in. Gen. 8:8 He sent out a dove...but the dove found no resong- place... and she returned Gen. 8:7 He sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro unol the waters had dried up from the Earth. Gen. 8:20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord (on the mountain) and offered burnt offerings.
What was God like in the Old Testament? What was God like in the New Testament? Did God change between to Old and New Testaments?
We have hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, droughts, etc. today. Do you blame God for those? Assuming God did not change between the Old and New Testaments, then why does the Old Testament paint God in such a bad light, sending floods, plagues, etc.?
So if we assume that God is not causing the hurricanes, floods, etc. and that they are just natural disasters, then we can look at the flood story in a different light. If the flood in Genesis is a natural disaster, then we see the loving God of the New Testament stepping in to save Noah and his family (maybe offering others).
Noah and his family are surrounded by evil, but God steps in to save them while others drowned because Noah followed what God told him to do. In the New Testament, we see the same thing. Evil is all around, people are drowning in sin, but God steps in to save those who want to be saved by sending Jesus Christ. Jesus becomes our ark in a flood of sin. Do you like looking at God in this way in the Old Testament?
Read Ma`hew 24:38-39 What is your understanding of the relaoon to the flood story to the second coming?
One of faith s greatest tests is when you are ignored. Faith has an easier Ome with outright opposioon than with condescending acceptance. How you feel when you try to share your faith and people ignore you? How do feel about people who are like the goats in the parable pay Jesus lip service by calling Him Lord, but do nothing else?
Faith shows its integrity, not in never doubong, but in rising above its doubts and cononing on its journey. When have you had doubts and how did you rise above them?
Noah delivered the remnant and provided a new start. It was though Noah s faith that there were survivors. The author says Noah s faith condemned the world. Do you believe that?
The author says that people of faith bless us but they also force us to face our limitaoons. He says people of faith make some of us uncomfortable especially if they belong to our Ome and our way of living. Do you agree or disagree with this? Why?
People who achieve a lot of things, especially people of faith make some people nervous. People began looking for shortcomings in Mother Teresa in the laier years of her work. Excellence condemns us because it might possibly mean that we could be doing beier than we are. If you took a close serious look at yourself, where could you be doing be`er in serving God?
