GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Brother Knights TTHIS IS YOUR (SPIRITUAL) LIFE. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a centuries-old practice which is rooted in an essential teaching of the Catholic Church, namely, that Jesus Christ is truly and completely present in the Eucharist. In Old Testament days, there was the Holy of Holies, an innermost chamber so sacred that only the High Priest could enter it and then only once a year on the annual day of atonement, Yom Kippur. How fortunate we are today that by virtue of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, that barrier between God and His people has been removed. Jesus now offers himself to us in the Eucharist, and for devotion at Exposition. During Exposition, Christ pours out his love for us and we must not be so preoccupied with other activities that we do not even notice. Remember, Jesus tells us that...this is the will of my heavenly father, that everyone who looks upon the Son, and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day. (Jn 6:40). Pope Benedict XVI said that...devotion to the holy Eucharist is the queen of all devotions. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus asked his disciples,...could you not watch one hour with me? (Mt 26:40) We must not be so preoccupied that we will not spend one hour with Jesus during Adoration on Wednesdays. The Knights of Columbus endorse and promote Eucharistic Adoration. One of the norms for having Jesus exposed in the Monstrance is that there should be at least two adorers present, and He must never be left alone, and this is our Council's commitment. Please help keep this commitment by participating in this wonderful devotion and spending time in the presence of the Lord to give Him praise, honor and glory, thanking Him for the blessings He has bestowed, and presenting your petitions to Him. You may participate in one of three ways: (1) come for one of the critical hours, i.e., 9:30 10:30, 11:30 12:30, or 1:30 2:30; (2) come and spend some prayer time at any time during the day; or, (3) join the Benediction server group. Contact Jack Dudzik (633-6481), Luke Amato (633-8468), or Paul Carren (633-9260) for additional information. May we always give Jesus priority in our lives for, as Scripture reminds us, What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life. Or what can one give in exchange for his life? (Mt 16:26). Brother Knights, I ve given up my space for the Grand Knights Message for this important message. Vivat Jesus, Nick Caleca GK PAGE 3

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR D ear Brother Sir Knights Depending on when you receive this newsletter, we will either be approaching Ash Wednesday, March 6 or we will have already had Ash Wednesday and will be in Lent. Lent is 40 days of fasting, prayer, and penitence beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending on the evening of Holy Thursday. We observe lent in preparation for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. During lent, we traditionally give something up for lent. We might also do some special activities during lent. Also attending Stations of the Cross are an important part of lent. Our monthly pancake breakfasts continue to go well with 97 breakfasts served at the February breakfast. Many thanks to Pancake Breakfast Chairman John Boa and the crew of other dedicated Knights who work at the breakfasts. Let s continue to spread the word with family, friends and neighbors about this delicious breakfast at a very reasonable price. On March 23, there will be a Fourth Degree Exemplification at Saint Joseph Parish Center in Bradenton. With this being only about 30 minutes away, it is a great opportunity for our third degree Knights to become fourth degree Knights. If you know of any third degree Knight interested in becoming a fourth degree Knight, please advise Duncan Farney or myself. We recently had 2 fourth degree Knights who moved to Sun City Center transfer into our Assembly. If you know of any fourth degree Knights who now live in Sun City Center or the surrounding area and are no longer involved with their Assembly where they previously lived, talk to them about transferring their membership to our Assembly so they can become involved in an Assembly again. Per our by-laws, our Assembly is to set aside one Sunday each year for the purpose of attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion in a body. Sunday, March 31 at the 8:00 am mass will be our Annual Communion Sunday. Sir Knights and wives will attend mass as a group. Dress for Sir Knights are our red fourth degree shirts. We will have breakfast after mass at Denny s in the private dining room. Please mark your calendar to attend this special event if possible. For the breakfast we will order off the menu and pay individually. Mid March I will send out an email for RSVP s for the breakfast. Vivat Jesus, Bill Ingham, Faithful Navigator PAGE 4

Flexibility of Annuities/Two Types/ Funding Choices Knights of Columbus Insurance offers two types of annuities: a Deferred Annuity, as the name suggests, provides an income stream when you are ready to begin taking withdrawals; or an immediate annuity, with which you begin to receive payments soon after you make your initial investment. You also have a choice to fund your annuity either with a Single Premium (lump sum), or a Flexible Premium, which allows for payments on either a regular or irregular basis. If you want to explore the way that a KofC annuity may work into your retirement plan, contact me, I'd like to be of assistance. Fraternally, John Holtzhauser PAGE 6
