QPEAK1NG O ABOUT SPORTS by Meyer Before an openng day crowd of somp 2,000 fans, mostly local rooter*, CarteretV greatly ovpr-rated and hghly publldwd hgh school eleven fell lke the fallng leaves n the autumn wnd before a bg and heavy Unon Hgh School tenm last Saturday afternoon at the local stadum. The fnal score was 19-6 and regardless how looked at t Unon was the better team and rghtfully won. Carteret's bg trouble was ts forward lne, partcularly the two guards, who folded up lke a sheet of paper every tme that Frank* Medvetz had the ball. He would have had just as much protecton, t seems to us, f the two guards smply weren't there but were on the sdelnes nstead. No sooner had Medvetz receved the pass from center when the entre Unon t«am swarmed over hm and cut hm down, He got away a few passes but they were so few and far between that ther net result was neglgble. To us, as to many of the local rooters that Carteret has, t seems that the local team went nto the game a bt too overconfdent and a bt too cocky. They fgured that Unon was just another team and that they would gve lttle trouble, f any. But Unon played a great game and had Carteret on the run most of the tme. The defeat, despte ts cost and the humlaton of a setback by a team of Unon's calber, may be just what the local team needed By that mean t may brng the Blue and Whte grdders "down to earth," so to speak, and mprnt n ther mnds the realzaton that they have seven more football games to play and f they expect to wn any of them they wll have to do a whole lot better than they dd aganst Unon last Saturday. They looked more lke a bunch of png-pong players than football players. Sundry Stuff Thanks, Matt Udzelak *nd Teddy Kleban, for your knd contrbutons.... They were, can assure you, to a mast worthy cause.... ncdentally, there are more towllng leagues <n operaton ths year around town than n any other, accordng to the representatves of the Academy Alleys and the Hll Bowl.... After all, they should know....
