Parish Updates Thanksgiving Day service & Harvest festival Our Thanksgiving Day service will start at 9:30 AM on Thursday 24 th at our church. Harvest Festival will follow the service. Vicar s Message Volume XXI Issue 11 N OVEMBER 2 0 1 1 Village of Hillburn Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Our church will be hosting the 32 nd Village of Hillburn Interfaith Thanksgiving Day service on Tuesday November 22, 2011. The service will start at 7:00PM. All are invited. An Interfaith Choir practice for this service will be held at our church on, 11/8/11 & 11/15/11 at 7:00PM. All are welcome. Day Light Saving Time Ends: Day light saving will end on Sunday; November 6 th. Move your clocks back 1 hr at 2:00AM to 1:00AM. Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (I Thessalonians 5:18). Official Thanks giving day was set aside by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. This does not mean that all other days we can live without gratitude to God and our fellow beings. God works in mysterious ways. Nothing good just happens. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is not variation or shadow of turning (James1:17). In a world of affluence we lose the sense of appreciation and thanks. Often we consider our blessings are our hard work and we forget the presence of God in our prosperity. A sense of thankfulness will change our world view. When Apostle Paul was imprisoned he considered it all as good for the extension of the gospel. The prison experience was not a time of complaint but a time of Joy by sharing the love of God to the fellow prisoners. Nov 22 Interfaith Thanksgiving Nov 24-- Thanksgiving Service Dec 05 -- Parish Day Dec 24 -- Christmas Carol Service Dec 25 -- Christmas Service Dec 31 -- Watch Night Service Upcoming Events Paul always ends his letter with a word of thanks to all those who helped him in the ministry of the Lord. Paul expresses his thanks to the church in Philippi for their financial help for his ministry (Phil.4:18).In our day to day life we have to be thankful to God and others for all the blessings we are enjoying each moment. Our life, health, family, our job and plenty of innumerable gifts are from God, but we conveniently forget God who is the giver of these blessings. Scripture says that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem when He entered a certain village where there were ten lepers. They asked Jesus to have mercy on them and He did by curing them of their leprosy. Of the ten lepers cured, only one came back and thanked and praised Jesus for healing him. Jesus asked, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Is giving thanks a thing of the past? I wish you a meaningful Thanks giving Day. In His service, Rev. Mathew Varughese. 14 3

Life is never hopeless however great your sorrow- If you're looking forward to a new tomorrow. If there is time for wishing then there is time for hoping- When through doubt and darkness you are blindly groping. Though the heart be heavy and hurt you may be feeling- If there is time for praying there is time for healing.
