UPCOMING SERMONS SUMMER SERMON SERIES: Beginnings Bible Stories You Once Knew AUG 05 END GAME GENESIS 50:15-21 Pastor Dan Conway preaching at the 8:15 am service. Pastor C. Chappell Temple preaching at the 9:30 and 10:55 am services. NEW SERMON SERIES BEGINNING AUGUST 12: Instructions for Life AUG 12 THE WEEKLY WORD by Pastor C. Chappell Temple The list is an impressive one Bacon, Galileo, Newton, and Kepler, just to name a few. But we could also add Faraday and Mendel, along with Asa Gray (of Gray s Manual, not Gray s Anatomy!), Pasteur, and George Washington Carver. Then toss in Wernher Von Braun, Richard Smalley, and Allistair McGrath if you like. For all of them were scientists of note who also embraced the Christian faith. Robert Boyle, for instance, regarded as the first modern chemist and a pioneer of the scientific method, was a devout Anglican, arguing that the very design of nature demonstrated God s involvement with the world, and devoting much of his resources to promote the spread of the faith in India, helping to translate the Bible into as many languages as possible. In that same vein, thus, we are pleased to welcome David Wilkinson, to Christ Church today. For Dr. Wilkinson too began his career as a scientist, receiving his Ph.D. in Astrophysics and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in England. David is also a Methodist minister and theologian, however, serving as the current Principal of St. John s College at Durham University. The author of numerous books on the relationship between science and religion, he is a regular contributor to the BBC and a well-known speaker around the world. It s a gift to have him with us today as an example of how to love the Lord not just with all of your heart, but with all of your mind as well. For as Psalm 8 tells us, God really has set his glory in the heavens. It s just up to us to notice it. TELL THE TRUTH EPHESIANS 4:25-5:2 Pastor C. COMMUNITY CORNER FYSH CAMP, 6 TH THROUGH 8 TH GRADE PICTURED ABOVE: The whole FYSH Camp pictured at Houston Food Bank; A group delivering ice cream to the local fire station; Two campers helping with a local garden. "My week at FYSH camp was the best I've had so far. We packed 3,200 bags of rice and beans at the Houston Food Bank, made over 1,600 lunches at Kids Meal's, worked at the church doing various improvements, and enjoyed random acts of kindness by delivering food and water to the homeless and ice cream to fire stations. After our hard work in the mornings we enjoyed fun and fellowship at Dave and Buster's, SkyZone, bubble soccer, and Pirate's Bay. Helping other's in need made me realize that we take so much for granted and others are not as fortunate as us. This week has showed me that I would like to serve others more often. I'm thankful for the opportunity to Find My (Your) Servant Heart (FYSH)." - STEVEN GODWIN 7th Grade SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS NEEDED KICK-OFF LUNCH & TRAINING August 5 12:30-3:30 pm Rooms 210/211 Can you make a difference in a child's faith story?
