Chronica Ordinis December 2012 Vol. 1, (6) Fellow Dames and Knights Unveiling of Afghanistan Memorial On October 10 th, The Order of St. George was proud to be among the honoured guests at the unveiling of the Afghanistan Memorial at Trenton, Ontario. The memorial is to honour and remember the Canadians who paid the ultimate price during the conflict and all funds for the memorial have been privately raised. The unveiling was covered by the major Canadian media and a television report broadcast on the CTV National News contained a comment from our Chief Herald. The news report can be seen at: http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/memorial-for-canadian-soldiers-killed-in-afghanistanunveiled-1.1033008 More information about the unveiling and the part that The Order of St. George played in the creation of the Memorial will be covered in the next edition of the Knightly Herald. Nunavut Fund Raising Dinner Below are excerpts from a Media Release sent by the Order following a great Fund Raising Dinner in Iqaluit, Nunavut. On the evening of December 4, 2012, at the Discovery Lodge Hotel in Iqaluit, the members of the Order in Iqaluit held a fundraising dinner in support of the Cadet Program of Nunavut. The evening was a spectacular success, raising $13,068.69 for the Cadet Program. The Grand Master of the Order, The Chevalier Gareth Green, CD, KGCStG, today wrote to Chevalier Greg Cayen, KStG, offering his congratulations on behalf of himself and the Order. In his note, The Grand Master said many congratulations to Chevalier Clarence Synard, KStG and yourself in organizing last night's fund raiser. I know that you were expecting to raise in the region of $6000.00, so the final result of over $13,000.00 must have been the cherry on the cake for you. In discussing the money raised during the evening, Chevalier Greg Cayen, KStG, said: The funds raised will be donated to the Foundation of the Order of St. George and will be earmarked for the Cadet Program of Nunavut. In 2013, Cadet groups throughout Nunavut will prepare proposals to the Foundation for funding of various Cadet Initiatives throughout Nunavut. Over the years, the Nunavut Cadet program has produced great Inuit Leaders. The Grand Master, Gareth Green, also telephoned Captain Adam Chubbs, Commanding Officer of the 795 Air Cadets I called Captain Chubbs to congratulate him, his officers, other staff and the Cadets of 795 Squadron for their excellent work and support that they offer to Iqaluit. The service that these young people, who are members of the squadron, dedicate themselves to, cannot be hailed enough, continued the Grand Master. What makes this fundraising achievement so remarkable is that the members who organized this event are the first three members of the Order in Nunavut. Elizabeth Cayen, Greg Cayen and Clarence Synard, are all new members of the Order having travelled to Toronto for our Investiture Service in the magnificent St. Paul s Anglican church on October 13 th of this year said The Grand Master. Congratulations to Elizabeth, Greg and Clarence on this spectacular achievment.. Captain Adam Chubbs, 795 Air Cadets CO, addresses the dinner. 3

Clarence Synard and Captain Chubbs The Season of Giving Congratulations to Chevalier Major (Ret d) Paul Henry, KStG. On November 5, Paul gave his 100 th blood donation to Canadian Blood Services in Sudbury, Ontario. Giving the gift of life takes only a little time and there is always a need. Well done Paul. If there are other members who have reached similar milestones, please let us know. Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal We are pleased to congratulate the following members who have received the QDJM. Dave Cole, KStG, Charles Jansen, KStG, Peter Milsom, KStG, Ken Ross, KStG and Harky Smith, KStG. We Remember The Order of St. George has lost another great warrior. Mr. Welsford Daniels, FKStG, WWII, age 92, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Daniel G. Clapin, ACFRE, Managing Director of The Perley and Rideau Veterans Health Centre Foundation conveyed the following in a message to the Order. He and his family were so proud of the honour bestowed upon him by The Order of St. George this last fall. Through The Order of St. George you mark so profoundly these warriors of days gone by. As a Field Knight your message to him and others, says, we shall not forget we here at the Perley Rideau are so very proud to be associated with The Order of St. George. Thank you for all that you do, lest we forget. For more about the life of Welsford Daniels, see http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/veteran+remembered+great+canadian/7750762/story.htm l Tis the Season 2012 has been a great year for the Order of St. George. On March 3, 2003, the Canadian Priory of the Order was consecrated in Christ Church, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Over the 9 years since, our Grand Master, Gareth Green, supported at first by only a few members, has worked tirelessly to organize and build the Order. The roots that were planted by the few are now, as we approach the 10 th Anniversary of the Order bearing the fruit of quickly increasing membership and enthusiasm. Please enjoy this festive time of year with your friends and family and as we ring in the New Year on January 1, 2013, look forward to a very special 10 th Anniversary Year for the Order of St. George.
