VOLUME 4, ISSUE 10 OCTOBER, 2018 A Message from Pastor Jason: Dear Friends, Countless thousands love to plop down in front of their televisions on any given Sunday afternoon and turn on the NASCAR race of the week. That s right, many love to watch 40- some cars doing nothing but make left turns at a high rate of speed. They like the pit stops and the maneuvering and, yes, even the occasional wreck. The sounds of the engines are exciting and, as an extra added bonus, the drone of engines is much more conducive to allowing them to take a nap there on said couch than are the whistles of football or basketball. NASCAR, they say, is the fastest growing sport in America, with millions of fans at the tracks or watching on TV. Why is it so popular? Well, my theory is that it s because stock car racing isn t that far removed from our everyday lives. After all, nearly everybody drives a car! Not everybody can be an NFL quarterback or home run hitter or even a scratch golfer. But if you pass a short test, they give you a driver s license and off you go making left turns of your own. You watch racing and you think to yourself, I could do that! I f the highway speeds on our local interstate are any indication, there are many people who believe that they could compete at the track. These are the people who think of tailgating as drafting. NASCAR drivers are so good at what they do that they make driving at an average speed of 120 mph look easy. Clearly, it s not just watch what happens when one of them kisses the wall. But it is kind of cool to imagine yourself there on the backstretch swapping paint with Gray Gaulding or Cole Whitt instead of bumping fenders in the mall parking lot. I would like to challenge you today to think of ministry in the same way. If you are a believer in, and follower of, Jesus Christ, you too are called to ministry. That ministry is often times fulfilled through the local church and your involvement there. As we continue to minister in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is my prayer that you will remain committed to the cause of Jesus Christ through the Cabot United Methodist Church. I am convinced that the Lord has a unique purpose for us, and that such a purpose includes each and every one of us. Romans 10:14-15 tells us: How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! Let s remain committed to that good news and proclaim it boldly. In Christ, Pastor Jason

V O LU ME 4, IS SU E 7 P age 4 Thank You Notes... Dear Friends at Cabot UMC, Thank you so much for your cards of encouragement after my foot injury. They brightened my days of recuperation. My healing is continuing slowly, but surely. I m praying for God to bless the ministry of your church in the coming seasons. Fondly, Paula Baptiste Floyd Extra special thanks to the Kennedy Family for allowing us to gather at their family s home for the annual skeet shoot/potluck. Many thanks to Paula Scott (and Alisha) who went shopping for the church related food supplies. The organization of it all went smoothly. To all our fellow church members for contributing with your dish especially taking the time to gather together at this fun event. God sure provided a beautiful day! I personally enjoyed seeing (and petting) the new baby calf, taking a hayride and just watching everyone enjoy themselves, including my family (less me) shooting skeet! Blessings and thanks to all! Maria Travis We would like to say thank you to all who helped prepare and serve food for the dinner following the Memorial Service, as well as for the many cards and flowers. Also, thank you to the church for the gift of wind chimes. The family of Denny Hinderliter Thank you to Larry & Sandy Laidlaw for arranging to have the JESUS sign put up. It s so beautiful and really eye catching. Michelle Moser Family fun after church on Sunday October 28th @ 12:00! A light potluck light and then let the games begin!!!! This will be an all ages, all inclusive fun couple of hours for everyone! The twist to this bingo is that it will be titled BIBLE instead of bingo!! So we will be calling out BIBLE when a person has the squares covered that were called. Also, we are asking that each person participating brings one or two small "treasures" from home that will fit in the size of a brown paper lunch bag. These "treasures" can be a toy, candy, food item, candle, a bar of soap, can of soup, gift card whatever! Use your imagination, kind of like a "white elephant" gift. Just a fun way, no cost to have some fun prizes for the winning games!! Secret Sisters Outing To the Speckled Hen Tuesday, Oct. 23rd 6:30 p.m. For all members of the Secret Sisters Ministry, we are planning an outing to the Speckled Hen for a caramel apple making/ Decorating class. We can all meet at the church and ride together. More details to come soon. Questions see Paula. We need a minimum of 7 people for this and would love to have everyone attend! There will be a sign up sheet in the Welcome Center, please consider joining us for some fun fellowship for an hour or two after church on Sunday, October 28th @ 12:00. Any questions or comments please contact Paula Scott - paulapcs@zoominternet.net, home # 724360-4025 or cell # 724-472-7004. The office staff of the church A Paper (especially Recycle Person the office) collect recyclable paper in the office. My friend, Denny Hinderliter used to take it to one of those bins for me. I can t usually lift the full boxes, so I m looking for someone to help me out and just drop this paper off at a bin close by. I think there s even one up at the Winfield Township Building. If you d be willing to help with this small task, please give me a call in the office. Thanks. Office We apologize if we did not include any items you may have submitted for the October newsletter. Our goal was for you to receive as quickly as possible with the information that we have. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Jason @ pastor@cabotumc.com. Thank you!
